A heat exchange cell and to a method of utilizing the waste heat of an air-cooled fuel cell battery is described. The heat exchange cell is of a configuration similar to that of the fuel cell and, in the stack, should directly adjoin the fuel cell battery, so that the spent cooling air is utilized to heat a medium without an intermediate line.

The invention is directed to a battery with liquid cooling composed of at least two fuel cells that respectively comprise a negative pole plate, a membrane electrode unit and a positive pole plate that are connected to one another mechanically rigidly, gas-tight and electronically insulating by a frame element, whereby the battery is immersed into a coolant bath.

The invention is directed to an intermediate element for thermal, electrical and mechanical connection of two parts, particularly two fuel cells. The intermediate element is corrugated and each corrugation is respectively multiply interrupted along its wave hill/wave valley and is coined upward and downward in alternation.
