The present invention provides methods for the treatment of an endobronchial infection in a patient by administering to the endobronchial system of the patient a dry powder aerosol composition comprising from 90 to 130 mg of an aminoglycoside antibiotic one to three times a day for a first treatment period of 20 to 36 days.

A patient suffering from an endobronchial infection is treated by administering to the patient for inhalation a dose of less than about 4.0 ml of a nebulized aerosol formulation comprising from about 60 to about 200 mg/ml of an aminoglycoside antibiotic, such as tobramycin, in a physiologically acceptable carrier in a time period of less than about 10 minutes. Unit dose devices for storage and delivery of the aminoglycoside antibiotic formulations are also provided.

The invention includes selective amplification methods for enriching target nucleic acid sequences that are present in a first source of nucleic acid but absent from a second source of nucleic acid. These methods involve using phenol to enhance the rate of the hybridization step, as well as modifications for reducing the amounts of reagents required for the reactions. Also included are methods for identifying sequences shared by two or more populations of nucleic acids.
