A method of operating an optical proximity sensor of a computer device having a display, where the optical proximity sensor is located beneath or otherwise adjacent to the display. The method comprises obtaining a vertical synchronization signal from a display driver, and synchronizing periodic illumination of a light emitter of the optical proximity sensor with the vertical synchronization signal.

Optical proximity sensing with reduced pixel distortion

An optical sensor arrangement has an integrator, a photodiode for providing a current corresponding to a first polarity, a comparator coupled to the integrator for comparing a voltage with a threshold voltage to provide a comparison output, a reference charge circuit and a control unit. The reference charge circuit is coupled to the integrator for selectively providing first charge packages of a first size or second charge packages of a second size. The control unit is configured to control operation in a calibration phase, in an integration phase and in a residual measurement phase. During the calibration phase, the reference charge circuit provides one of the first charge packages and one or more of the second charge packages to the integrator until the comparison output changes. A reference number is determined corresponding to a number of the second charge packages provided. During the integration phase, the photodiode is connected to the integrator and the reference charge circuit provides one of the first charge packages to the integrator in response to a respective change of the comparison output. An integration number corresponding to a number of the changes of the comparison output is determined. During the residual measurement phase that immediately follows the integration phase, the reference charge circuit provides one or more of the second charge packages to the integrator until the comparison output changes. A residual number corresponding to a number of the second charge packages provided is determined.

Optical sensor arrangement and method for light sensing

An optical sensor arrangement comprises a photodiode (), an integrator () with an integrator input () coupled to the photodiode (), a comparator () with a first input () coupled to an integrator output () of the integrator (), and a reference capacitor circuit () that is coupled to the integrator input () and is designed to provide a charge package to the integrator input (). In a start phase (A), charge packages are provided to the integrator input (), until a comparator input voltage (VIN) at the first input () of the comparator () crosses a comparator switching point.

A method is suggested for sensing light being incident on an electronic device. The electronic device comprises a display and a light sensor arrangement mounted behind the display such as to receive incident light through the display. The method comprises periodically switching the display on and off depending on a control signal, wherein a period is defined by a succession of an on-state and an off-state of the display. A sensor signal is generated by integrating the incident light by means of the light sensor arrangement for a total integration time comprising a number of periods. A first signal count is determined from the sensor signal being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during an on-state. A second signal count is determined from the sensor signal being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during an off-state. A third signal count is determined from the sensor signal being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during the total integration time. Finally, an ambient light level is determined depending on the first, second and third signal counts.

Method for sensing light being incident on an electronic device

A circuit for DC-DC conversion with current limitation comprises a DC-DC converter () with a coil () and a controllable switch () that can be switched into a low-impedance and a high-impedance state, and a current limiter () for generating a control signal (I) for controlling the state of the controllable switch in the DC-DC converter (). The current limiter () is constructed such that the current (I) through the coil at which the current limitation takes place is nearly independent of the ratio of the on-times and off-times of the controllable switch in the DC-DC converter ().
