An impact girder for a door or side wall of a passenger vehicle which has a hollow space extending along the length of a beam having compression and tension flanges. In the region between a central zone and the ends of the beam, the compression flange is formed with a pair of slots providing control deformation of the beam upon application of a force to the central region.

Impact girder for the side of an automotive vehicle

An impact girder for a door or side wall of a motor vehicle body has a longitudinally extending hollow space. Along outer edge portions the compression flange overhangs the lateral webs and this overhanging portion is raised relative to the recessed portions between the lateral webs so that, upon impact, the edge portions buckle outwardly and tear away from the remainder of the compression flange which buckles inwardly.

A side-collision protective beam for a motor vehicle comprises an elongated outer flange extending along a longitudinal axis and having a pair of opposite ends, an elongated inner flange spaced from and extending parallel to the outer flange and having a pair of opposite ends, and a web transversely interconnecting the flanges. The flanges have at least one of the respective ends respective end portions extending longitudinally past the web and the end portion of the outer flange is bent transversely to the axis toward and lies flat against the end portion of the inner flange. A fastener transverses both end portions and is secured in the motor vehicle.

Side-collision protective beam for motor vehicle

A beam or girder in a side wall or door of a passenger motor vehicle and adapted to provide resistance to lateral collision has a compression flange thereof provided with openings in the form of bores and/or notches so that brittle fracture of the beam can be avoided when the elastic limit is exceeded.
