The present invention relates to paste-like masses that can be used in electrochemical elements, comprising a heterogeneous mixture of (A) a matrix containing or comprising at least one organic polymer, precursors thereof, or prepolymers thereof, (B) an electrochemically activatable inorganic or largely inorganic liquid that does not dissolve the matrix or essentially does not dissolve the matrix, and, if required, (C) a powdery solid that is essentially inert relative to the electrochemically activatable liquid. The invention furthermore relates to self-supporting layers or layers that are placed on a substrate, comprising a heterogeneous mixture of (A) a matrix containing or comprising at least one organic polymer as defined in any of claimsthrough, (B) an electrochemically activatable inorganic or largely inorganic liquid that does not dissolve the matrix or essentially does not dissolve matrix, and if required, (C) a powdery solid that is essentially inert relative to the electrochemically activatable liquid, and composite layers with electrochemical properties that contain such layers. The layers and composite layers can be used advantageously for producing batteries, low-temperature fuel cells, solar cells, or electrochemical sensors.

Paste-like mass with inorganic, liquid conductors and layers and electrochemical elements produced therefrom

The invention relates to a paste-like mass that can be used in electrochemical structural elements, including a heterogeneous mixture of (1.) a matrix (A) containing at least one organic polymer, precursors thereof, or prepolymers thereof, and a plasticizer, and (2.) an electrochemically activatable inorganic material in the form of a solid substance (B), the material not being soluble in the matrix and in water, with the proviso that a conductor that is soluble in the plasticizer and that is different from (B) is not present in the mixture, wherein the plasticizer is present in a quantity of up to about 5% by weight, relative to the quantity of the electrochemically activatable material. Self-supporting layers or layers that are placed on a substrate can be prepared from the paste-like mass. Composite layers having electrochemical properties are obtainable by combining such a layer wherein (B) is a positive electrode material, a layer wherein (B) has solid electrolyte properties, and a layer wherein (B) is a negative electrode material and can be used in rechargeable electrochemical cells.

Films for electrochemical structural elements and method for producing such films

The invention relates to a paste-like mass that can be used in electrochemical structural elements, including a heterogeneous mixture of (1.) a matrix (A) containing at least one organic polymer, precursors thereof, or prepolymers thereof, or consisting of said components, (2.) an electrochemically activatable inorganic material in the form of a solid substance (B), said material not being soluble in said matrix and in water, and (3.) a material (C) which is capable of improving the transport of a liquid electrolyte into and the storage thereof within the structural element, with the proviso that said material (C) is not a material which simultaneously has conductivity improving properties, if said solid substance (B) is a material that is suitable as an electrode material. From said mass, layers (films) and electrochemical composite layers can be produced that are subsequently impregnated with an electrolyte solution preferably of electrolytes dissolved in plasticizers for said matrix (A). In this manner, electrochemically active structural elements such as batteries and accumulators are obtained.

The invention relates to a pasty material that can be used in electrochemical components comprising (A) 0-70 percent by weight of a matrix containing at least one organic polymer, its precursors or its prepolymers or consisting thereof; (B) 30-100 percent by weight of inorganic material that can be electrochemically activated and that is preferably nonsoluble in the matrix in the form of a solid substance and optionally a suspending agent for (B). The invention is characterized in that the electrochemically activatable material is at least partially a nanocrystalline powder, with the proviso that material (B) is not a material that can be used as electrode material in the absence of (A). Said material is suitable for producing self-supporting layers or layers placed on a substrate, from which or with which layered composites with electrochemical properties such as accumulators, batteries, condensers (supercaps), solar cells and electrochrome display elements can be produced. A method for producing electrode sheets for electrochemical elements which contain at least one lithium-intercalating electrode which is composed of a mixture of at least two copolymerized fluorized polymers in whose polymer matrix electrochemically active materials which are insoluble in the polymer are finely dispersed, the fluorized polymers are, having being dissolved as a solvent, mixed with electrochemically active materials, the resulting pasty substance is extruded to form a sheet and then laminated with a polyolefin separator, which is provided with a mixture of the two polymers, PVDF-HFP copolymers in each case being used as the polymer, and the proportion of HFP being less than about 8 percent by weight.

Method for producing electrode sheets for electrochemical elements

A method for producing an electrochemical element having at least one lithium-intercollating electrode and an organic electrolyte, at least one positive electrode, at least one negative electrode and at least one separator are joined together to form an element, with the separator being a porous matrix composed of at least about 60% by weight of a ceramic material A, which contains lithium ions, and a polymer as a binding agent. The resulting element is then introduced into a housing and impregnated with a liquid organic electrolyte B, whose conductive salt contains lithium ions, so that the ionic total conductivity of the separator is formed by adding the ion conductivities of A and B and the reciprocal of the specific contact resistance of the phase boundary between A and B, and is then closed such that it is sealed. A copolymer composed of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene is used as the binder polymer. Material A is a naturally occurring mineral.

A method for fault tracing in automatically operating electronic measurement and test arrangements for a large number of electrochemical elements, wherein holders for the electrochemical elements are provided on the measurement and test arrangements and wherein cell simulators are provided with an external shape and size, including electrical connections, which approximately simulate one of the electrochemical elements to be tested, and contain test electronics, with a behaviour of the cell simulators with inverse polarity differing to a major extent from a behaviour with polarity based on the application, including the steps of inserting of the cell simulators into the holders, activating one of the cell simulators and applying a measurement current applied to it, measuring the voltage on the cell simulator and comparing the voltage with the nominal voltage predetermined for the cell simulator.

A method for manufacturing galvanic elements having a liquid organic electrolyte that contain an electrode-separator assembly that has at least one lithium intercalating electrode in whose polymer matrix insoluble, electrochemically active materials are finely distributed in the polymer involved, the electrolyte contains about 2% to about 15% by weight of a hydrocarbon-oxygen compound (carbonate) that has a central carbon atom, to which one oxygen atom is doubly bonded and two oxygen are singly bonded, where the singly bonded oxygen is not saturated by any other atoms or groups and a hydrocarbon chain having a length of four carbon atoms or less is bonded to each of those singly bonded oxygen atoms and these two chains differ by at least one, but no more than three, CH groups, and this electrode-separator assembly is initially impregnated with this electrolyte, then cut to size, and subsequently inserted into a housing. The electrode-separator assemblies may be laminated onto conductors and/or counterelectrodes prior to their being impregnated with the electrolyte and may also be rolled up and then impregnated.

A method for monitoring the operational reliability of rechargeable lithium cells including measuring the cell voltage and cell temperature, the cell is discharged if a predetermined cell limit voltage (U ) and a predetermined ambient limit temperature T are exceeded at the same time, until a predetermined lower voltage level or a predetermined lower ambient temperature is reached. A circuit for carrying out the method has a first threshold value switch which responds when a predetermined upper limit voltage (U ) is exceeded in the cell, and a second threshold value switch (C) which responds when a predetermined ambient temperature limit (T ) is exceeded, and has a logic circuit (E) which connects (G) the cell to a load when the first and second threshold value switches respond at the same time, wherein both threshold value switches (C, D) are configured such that they trip when a lower cell voltage or a lower ambient temperature is reached.
