A multilayered article is disclosed, which includes, in sequence: (1) a substrate (S), e.g., of thermoplastic polycarbonate; (2) a scratch-resistant layer (SR); and (3) a top layer (T). The scratch-resistant layer is prepared by curing a scratch-resistant coating composition comprising a polycondensate prepared from at least one silane, said polycondensate being prepared by a sol-gel process. The top layer is prepared by curing a top layer coating composition prepared by hydrolyzing a composition which includes: The multilayered articles are distinguished by possessing outstanding scratch and abrasion resistance.

Multilayered article and a process for its preparation

A dielectric capacitor having self healing properties is disclosed. The capacitor includes a film made of an amorphous aromatic copolycarbonate having a weight average molecular weight of at least 10,000 and a glass transition temperature of at least 160&#xb0; C. In a preferred embodiment the copolycarbonate includes structural units derived from bisphenol TMC. Also disclosed is a process for making the film.

Film as a dielectric in capacitors and process for its production

An agent suitable for imparting antistatic properties to plastics is disclosed. The incorporation of small amounts of perfluoroalkylsulfonic acid salt in plastic resins, notably thermoplastic resins was found to be effective for this purpose.

Antistatic agent

A transparent heat-absorbent multi-layer structure comprising, (A) a first layer, and (B) a second layer is described. The first layer (A) contains at least one organic infrared absorber (e.g., a phthalocyanine) and at least one ultraviolet absorber (e.g., a benzotriazole), and the second layer (B) contains at least one ultraviolet absorber and is substantially free of organic infrared absorbers. The first layer (A) is the only layer in the multi-layer structure that contains an organic infrared absorber. Also described is a method of preparing the multi-layer structure. Molded articles that may comprise the multi-layer structure of the present invention include glazings, such as automotive glazings.

The present invention provides a coating which contains a primer layer on a substrate with a scratch resistant layer adhered to the primer, wherein the primer layer contains a hardened epoxy resin prepared from a hardener and a multi epoxy-functional compound and the scratch resistant layer contains an epoxide group containing hydrolyzable silane. The coating may find use in coated products such as sheets, spectacles, optical lenses, automobile screens and plastic spray screens.

Scratch-resistant coating

Transparent moldings comprising a polymeric base material and at least one coating formed thereon is disclosed. The coating includes a primer coat that containing an epoxy and/or acrylic resin is disposed on at least one surface of the base material, a heat-absorbing coating which contains a polythiophene compound and a scratch-resistant coating. In an additional embodiment of the invention, the coating contains no primer and the heat absorbing coating contains a polythiophene compound.

Transparent plastics molding composition

A process for the production of coated planar moldings of thermoplastics is disclosed. The process entails extrusion of a molded body, cooling of the molding, applying the aqueous-based coating agent and drying. The coating agent, having a pH value of less than 6, contains a salt of sulfondicarboxylic diester, a water-insoluble oxide of metal or semi-metal and an acid/water mixture. It is applied to at least one surface of the molding immediately after the production of the molding and with the aid of an application roll.

Water-dispersing coated shaped bodies

A molding having at least part of its surface coated with a water-spreading coating is disclosed. The coating comprise a salt of sulfondicarboxylic diester, a water-insoluble oxide of metal or semi-metal and an acid/water mixture. It is applied to at least one surface of the molding.

Water-dispersing coated shaped bodies and their utilization

A composite plastic structure is described. The composite structure includes: (a) a shaped polycarbonate article having an edge region, the edge region having an adhesion-promoting geometric feature therein; (b) a coating applied to the surface of the shaped polycarbonate article; and (c) a polymer that is injection-molded or cast over the edge region of the shaped polycarbonate article. The polymer (c) envelopes the adhesion-promoting geometric feature of the shaped polycarbonate article (a). The envelopment of the adhesion-promoting geometric feature by the polymer (c) provides a structurally firm connection between the shaped polycarbonate article (a) and the polymer (c). Also described is a method of preparing the composite structure, and composite structures according to the present invention, such as picture frames, slide frames, windows having a seal or frame, and a glazing for a motor vehicle.

A UV-stabilizer comprising a mixture of hydroxybenzotriazole and a hydrolyzable silane containing at least one epoxy group is disclosed. The stabilizer is especially suitable as a component of a siloxane system for coating substrates, especially thermoplastic substrates and most especially polycarbonate substrates.

A UV-stabilizer comprising a mixture of hydroxybenzotriazole and a hydrolyzable silane containing at least one epoxy group is disclosed. The stabilizer is especially suitable as a component of a Siloxane system for coating substrates, especially thermoplastic substrates and most especially polycarbonate substrates.

The invention relates to coated moldings of polycarbonates with a coating (A) against the effect of UV radiation and, optionally a coating (B) to prevent the formation of droplets.
