A coating composition, particularly a clearcoat composition, which may be a two-component clearcoat composition, comprises a film-forming material, a crosslinking agent, and a nonlinear polysiloxane polymer having a functional group reactive with the crosslinking agent. The coating composition exhibits excellent scratch resistance and adhesion of repair coating layers and sealants, such as windshield sealants.

Nonlinear polysiloxane containing coatings with improved adhesion properties

The invention relates to a sol-gel coating material containing (A) an acrylate copolymer solution containing at least one acrylate copolymer (A1); (B) a parent varnish which can be prepared by hydrolysis and condensation of at least one hydrolysable silane (B1) of the general formula (I) SiR, in which the variable R=hydrolysable groups, hydroxy groups and non-hydrolysable groups, provided that there should be at least one, preferably two, hydrolysable groups; and (C) an additive solution containing c1) at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound containing at least one epoxide group; c2) at least one silane (B1) with at least one non-hydrolysable group R presenting at least one epoxide group; and c3) at least one adduct of at least one silane (B1) with at least one non-hydrolysable group R presenting at least one amino group and at least one cyclic ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride. The invention also relates to the use of said sol-gel coating material for producing scratchproof sol-gel coatings.

Sol-gel coating for single-layer or multi-layer varnishes

A sol-gel coating material, containing (A) an acrylate copolymer solution, consisting of at least one acrylate copolymer; (B) a parent lacquer which can be produced by the hydrolysis and condensation of at least one hydrolysable silane of the formula (I): SiR ; wherein: R&equals;hydrolysable groups, hydroxy groups and non-hydrolysable groups, with the proviso that there should be at least one hydrolysable group; and (C) a sol which can be produced by the hydrolysis, condensation and complexing of (C1) at least one hydrolysable metal compound of the (II): MR ; wherein: M&equals;aluminium, titanium or zirconium, R&equals;the aforementioned given groups and n&equals;3 or 4; of (C2) at least one organic thio compound of the formula (III): S(R X) , wherein R represents a two-bond organic radical and X represents hydroxyl, thiol and/or primary and/or secondary amino groups; and of (C3) a hydrolysable silane of the general formula (I).

Sol-gel coating

The invention relates to a sol-gel coating material, containing (A) an acrylate copolymer solution, consisting of at least one acrylate copolymer (A1), (B) a sol which can be produced by the hydrolysis, condensation and complexing of at least one hydrolysable metal compound (B1) of the dormula (1): MR ; wherein the variable and the index have the following meanings: M&equals;aluminium, titanium or zirconium; R&equals;hydrolysable group, hydroxy groups and non-hydrolysable groups, with the proviso that there should be at least one, preferable two hydrolysable groups; and n&equals;3 or 4; by the hydrolysis, condensation and complexing of at least one hydrolysable silane (B2) of the formula (II): Si(R ) (R ) ; wherein the varible R and R have the following meanings: R &equals;alkyl and/or cycloalkyl radicals and R &equals;alkoxy and/or cycloakoxy radicals; and by the hydrolysis, condensation and complexing of at least one hydrollysable silane (B3) of the formula (III): SiR ; wherein the variable R has the aforementioned given meaning: with the proviso that the silane (B3) is not a silane (B2) according to the general formula (II); and (C) between 0 and 40% by weight in relation to the total quantity of the coating material, of a parent lacquer which can be produced by the hydrolysis and condensation of least one hydrolysable silane (B3) of general formula (III).

A process for producing scratch-resistant coatings, especially scratch-resistant multicoat finishes, involving use of coating compositions which after curing have a storage modulus E&prime; in the rubber-elastic range of at least 10 Pa and a loss factor tan &dgr; at 20&deg; C. of at least 0.05, the storage modulus E&prime; and the loss factor having been measured by dynamic mechanical thermoanalysis on free films having a film thickness of 40&plusmn;10 &mgr;m, and comprise as binders one or more polyacrylate resins having a hydroxyl number of from 100 to 240, an acid number of from 0 to 35, and a number-average molecular weight of from 1500 to 10,000, and as crosslinkers one or more free or blocked isocyanates and/or triazine-based components which crosslink with the hydroxyl groups of the binder to form ether and/or ester structures.

Method for producing scratch resistant coatings, especially for producing multi-layer enamels

The present invention relates to a process for producing coated substrates, especially coated automobile bodies, coils and furniture, in which first of all a powder slurry clearcoat material and then a sol-gel clearcoat material are applied to an optionally precoated substrate and are then cured conjointly.

The present invention relates to a process for producing scratch-resistant coatings which comprises applying a coating composition which in the cured state has a storage modulus E&prime; in the rubber-elastic range of at least 10,Pa and a loss factor tan &dgr; at 20&deg; C. of not more than 0.10, the storage modulus E&prime;0 and the loss factor having been measured by dynamic mechanical thermoanalysis on homogeneous free films having a film thickness of 40&plusmn;10 &mgr;m. The present invention additionally relates to the use of the process for producing multicoat finishes and also to coating compositions suitable for this process.
