A method is provided for controlling a solenoid actuated fuel injector having a solenoid actuator which moves a pintle and needle arrangement such that the needle moves away from a valve seat to an open position and also includes circuitry which applies chopped hysteresis control subsequent to an energisation phase. The method includes a) obtaining a signal of the current or voltage across the solenoid; b) analyzing the voltage or current to detect a chopped hysteresis pulse; c) determining the time point of the end of said chopped hysteresis pulse; and d) applying a braking pulse to the solenoid, the timing of which is dependent on the results of step c).

Method of controlling a fuel injector

A method of controlling the operation of a solenoid activated fuel injector, actuator being operated by applying a activation pulse profile to the solenoid. The method includes measuring the voltage across, or current through, the solenoid during a time period of the valve closing phase, subsequent to a valve opening phase. The method also includes determining at least one parameter from the measuring step. The method also includes controlling and varying the activation pulse profile during a subsequent activation/fueling cycle of the fuel injector based on the parameter.

Method of controlling a solenoid actuated fuel injector

A system for the monitoring of the state of a battery used in a vehicle and to which electrical elements comprising at least one electrical consumer and/or at least one electrical generator are connected comprises means for the detection of the battery voltage, means for the extraction of voltage frequency components from the detected battery voltage at different frequencies, means for the detection of the current flowing out of or into the battery, means for the extraction of current frequency components from the detected battery current at the same frequencies at which the voltage frequency components were extracted, means for the determination of internal impedances of the battery from the voltage frequency components and current frequency components extracted at a respective frequency, means for the storage of predetermined relationships between the internal impedance and the battery state for each of the respective frequencies and means for the determination of the battery state from the determined internal impedances and the predetermined relationships. In this connection, means are provided for the monitoring of the state of at least some of the electrical elements as well as means in order to select the time for a respective voltage and current detection in dependence on the detected state of the electrical elements and/or to fix the conditions for a respective voltage and current detection.

Battery monitoring system

A cam phaser apparatus comprising a triple member gear system for transferring a driving torque from a drive member to a driven member and for selectively adjusting the angular relationship between the drive and driven members, said triple member gear system comprising a first member comprising a driving part, a second member comprising a driven part connectable to a cam sprocket or pulley, and a third member comprising an adjusting means connectable to a camshaft, said third member being connected to means for rotating said third member or applying a braking torque and/or a motoring torque to said third member to vary the angular relationship between the first and second members, wherein the cam phaser apparatus further comprises a selectively actuable coupling means for selectively coupling two of said first, second and third members. In one embodiment the coupling means comprises a magnetic coupling.
