A continuous vapor-phase fluidized-bed process for the preparation of ethylene homopolymers and copolymers having a density of from 0.87 to 0.97 g/cmin which ethylene or mixtures of ethylene and C-Ca-monoolefins are (co)polymerized in the presence of a supported chromium catalyst in the polymerization zone of a vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor under pressures ranging from 1 to 100 bar and at temperatures ranging from 30&#xb0; to 125&#xb0; C. in the vapor phase in an agitated bed of bulk material comprising particulate polymer, the resultant heat of polymerization is removed by cooling the recirculated reactor gas and the resulting (co)polymer is removed from the vapor-phase fluidized-bed reactor, wherein, for the preparation of a (co)polymer of a specific density d, the (co)polymerization is carried out at a temperature which is in a range restricted by an upper envelope defined by equation Iand a lower envelope defined by equation IIin which the variables have the following meanings:

In a low-odor polyethylene blend made from a high-molecular-weight ethylene copolymer obtainable by polymerization in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst and from a low-molecular-weight ethylene homopolymer or ethylene copolymer obtainable by polymerization in the presence of a chromocene catalyst on an oxidic support, the Al content of the high-molecular-weight component is from 5 to 60 mg/kg, the Al content of the low-molecular-weight component is from 0 to 5 mg/kg and the Al content of the blend is from 1 to 55 mg/kg. Processes are described for preparing blends of this type. Their use is described for producing moldings, in particular hollow articles and pipes. Moldings, in particular hollow articles and pipes, are produced from low-odor polyethylene blends.

Biodegradable polyether esters P1 obtainable by the reaction of a mixture consisting essentially of: (a1) a mixture essentiall) of 20 to 95 mol % adipic acid or ester-forming derivatives thereof or mixtures thereof, 5 to 80 mol % terephthalic acid or ester-forming derivatives thereof or mixtures thereof, and 0 to 5 mol % of a sulphonate group-containing compounds In which the sum of the individual mol percentages is 100; and (a2) a mixture of dihydroxy compounds consisting essentially of (a21) 15 to 99 mol % of a dihydroxy compound selected from the group consisting of C -C alkane diols and C -C cycloalkane diols; (a22) 85 to 0.2 mol % of an ether function-containing dihydroxy compound as in formula I HO&mdash;&lsqb;(CH ) &mdash;O&rsqb; &mdash;H in which n is 2, 3 or 4 and m is a whole number from 2 to 250, or mixtures thereof, in which the molar ratio of (a1) to (a2) is in the range from 0.4:1 to 1.5:1 with the proviso that the polyether esters P1 have molar weight (M ) in the range from 5,000 to 80,000 g/mol, a viscosity index in the range from 30 to 450 g/ml (measured in o-dichlorobenzole/phenol (weight ratio 50/50) at a concentration of 0.5 wt. % polyether esters P1 at a temperature of 25&deg; C.) and a melting point in the range from 50 to 200&deg; C., and with the further proviso that from 0.01 to 5 mol %, in relation to the molar quantity of the components (a) used of a compound D with at least three groups capable of ester formation are used to produce the polyether esters P1, and other biodegradable polymers and thermoplastic moulding compounds, process for their production and biodegradable mouldings, adhesives, foams and blends with starch obtainable from the polymers or moulding compounds of the invention.

A polymer mixture comprises at least 40 but less than 85% by weight of an ethylene copolymer (A) which has a density of from 0.91 to 0.93 g/cm , an HLMFR (190&deg; C./21.6 kg) of from 5 to 60 g/10 min and a molar mass distribution M /M &lE;3, and more than 15 but at most 60% by weight of an ethylene copolymer (B) which has a density of from 0.93 to 0.945 g/cm , an HLMFR (190&deg; C./21.6 kg) of from 8 to 20 g/10 min and a molar mass distribution M /M &gE;7, where the percentages by weight are in each case based on the total mass of the components (A) and (B).

Polymer blends contain at least 85% by weight of ethylene/&agr;-olefin copolymers (A) prepared by metallocene catalysis and from 1 to 15% by weight of essentially linear ethylene/&agr;-olefin copolymers (B) prepared using another catalyst, the percentages in each case being based on the total weight of the polymer blend.

In a continuous gas-phase polymerization process for preparing ethylene and propene homopolymers and copolymers, in which ethylene, propene or a mixture of ethylene or propene and C,-C,-&agr;-monoolefins is polymerized in the polymerization zone of a gas-phase polymerization reactor at from 30 to 125&deg; C. and a pressure of from 1 to 100 bar in the gas phase in a bed of finely divided polymer in the presence of a catalyst, where the reactor gas is circulated to remove the heat of polymerization, polymer deposits in the circulating gas line are prevented by metering a catalyst poison having a boiling point above the maximum temperature within the circulating gas line into this circulating gas line in at most such an amount that it does not significantly impair the productivity of the catalyst in the reactor.
