A material for refractory shaped bodies or compounds, the material being a pleonaste and/or a spinel of the pleonaste type. In addition to FeOand AlO, the material also includes MgO. The ratio of the iron in the material is calculated as FeO:AlOand ranges from 30:70 to 60:40. The material contains from 20 to 60% by mass of MgO, as based on FeO+AlO.

A mixture, in particular for the production of fireproof molded bodies, including a fireproof metal oxidic main component, and an elastifying component containing a mineral emery. If needed, a binder component such as lignin sulphonate is added. A method is provided for the production of the mixture.

A batch, in particular for the production of a refractory shaped body, includes at least one refractory metal oxide component and a synthetic resin component as a binder, and a graphitizing auxiliary for producing crystalline graphite carbon from the resin. The graphitizing auxiliary originates from a group consisting of reducible organic compounds of transition elements and/or a group of active organic or inorganic metal compounds or metals, such as resin-soluble metal salts, chemically precipitated or micronized metal oxides or metals. The graphitizing auxiliary is available in molecular form over the time and/or temperature range of conversion of the synthetic resin into carbon (carbonization).

Carbonaceous refractory shaped body with improved oxidation behavior and batch composition and method for producing the same

A material for refractory shaped bodies or compounds, the material being a pleonaste and/or a spinel of the pleonaste type. In addition to FeO and Al O , the material also includes MgO. The ratio of the iron in the material is calculated as Fe O :Al O , and ranges from 30:70 to 50:40. The material contains from 20 to 60% by mass of MgO, as based on Fe O &plus;Al O .

A resistor, which is solidified from a melt, is provided for a refractory shaped body, and includes a refractory mineral metal-oxide main component having elasticizers a general formula A B O in an amount so that solubility of the main component for the elasticizer is exceeded with the elasticizers providing precipitation areas in the main component. The resistor is produced by a joint melting of the main component and the oxides which form the elasticizers. A process is provided for the production of the resistor.

The invention relates to a refractory batch containing at least one refractory metal oxide component, at least one binder component, such as resin or pitch, if appropriate antioxidants, at least one carbon carrier, such as soot and/or graphite, and reinforcement fibers which are formed from a stainless steel material, which at the temperatures of use forms a coat of the refractory metal oxide on its surface, and to a shaped body made from the batch and to a process for producing the shaped body.

A glass forming compound having in its melted glass phase the formula Si.sub.2 AlO (PO.sub.4).sub.3 or 4 SiO.sub.2.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.3P.sub.2 O.sub.5 is provided together with grain mixtures for producing refractory thermally insulating bricks adapted for use in the preheating zone of a rotary cement kiln operating in an atmosphere containing alkali chlorides, particularly KCl. The bricks develop a glass layer on the kiln exposed face thereof which resists penetration by alkalis, particularly KCl.

Low carbon, white husk ash suitable for use in manufacturing building materials, more particularly refractory building materials are prepared by first removing volatile constituents by heating the husks, normally rice husks but alternatively, for example, wheat, oats or barley husks, to a first relatively low temperature below the ignition point of the husks. Fixed carbon is then oxidized in the presence of a reagent by heating the husks to a second temperature above the separation temperature but below the crystallization temperature of the SiO.sub.2 in the husks, following by a heat treatment at a third temperature above the crystallization temperature of the SiO.sub.2, to produce a uniform SiO.sub.2 crystal structure.
