A system for cleaning gas turbine engines is described. More specifically, methods and apparatuses for cleaning stationary gas turbines and on-wing turbofan engines found on aircraft are disclosed that includes a trailer-mounted, automated low-pressure water delivery system, additive and detergent injection system, nozzle and manifold technology, and active waste water effluent collector system. The system will deliver the liquid cleaning medium at a specific pressure, temperature, and flow rate to optimize the atomization that occurs at the nozzles.

A method for cleaning a gas turbine unit. The invention further relates to a nozzle for use in washing the gas turbine unit. The nozzle is arranged to atomize a wash liquid in the air stream in an air intake of the gas turbine unit and comprises a nozzle body comprising an intake end for intake of said wash liquid and outlet end for exit of said wash liquid. The nozzle further comprises a number of orifices that are connected to the outlet end and respective orifice is arranged at a suitable distance from a center axis of said nozzle body, whereby the local density of the injected wash liquid in a desired area can be increased with preserved droplet size and thereby the efficiency of the cleaning process can be significantly improved at the same time as the risk for damaging the components in the gas turbine unit is significantly reduced.

Method for washing gas turbine compressor with nozzle

Device for cleaning a gas turbine engine, and in particular an engine of turbofan type. The present invention further relates to a method for cleaning such an engine. The device comprises a plurality of nozzles arranged to atomize cleaning liquid in the air stream in an air inlet of the engine up-stream of a fan of the engine. According to the invention, a first nozzle is arranged at a position such that the cleaning liquid emanating from the first nozzle impinges the surfaces of the blades substantially on the pressure side; a second nozzle is arrange at a position such that the cleaning liquid emanating from the second nozzle impinges the surfaces of the blades substantially on the suction side; and a third nozzle is arranged at a position such that the cleaning liquid emanating from the third nozzle passes substantially between the blades and enters an inlet of the core engine. Thereby, the different types of fouling found on the fan and in the core engine compressor of turbofan engine can be removed in an efficient manner.

A wash apparatus includes a harness assembly comprising a coupling device a coupling device for connecting one or more fluid supply lines to one or more fluid delivery lines; one or more fluid delivery lines removably attached at one end to the coupling device's first portion and positioned for delivering washing fluid directly into the gas turbine engine core as the engine is cranked; one or more fluid supply lines removably attached to the coupling device's second portion for supplying washing fluid to the harness assembly and remaining in a static position relative to the rotating fluid delivery lines; one or more harness rings attached to the one or more fluid delivery lines for spacing, stabilizing, and positioning the fluid delivery lines relative to the fan blades; and a connector for removably attaching the harness assembly directly onto the fan hub.

Method and apparatus for washing objects

A method for cleaning a stationary gas turbine unit during operation, wherein the unit comprises a turbine, a compressor driven by the turbine, the compressor having an inlet, an air inlet duct arranged upstream of the air inlet of the compressor, the inlet duct having a part of the duct adjoining the inlet of the compressor and having decreasing cross section in the flow direction in order to give the air flow a final velocity at the inlet to the compressor. A spray of cleaning fluid is introduced in the inlet duct. The cleaning fluid is forced through a spray nozzle with a pressure drop exceeding 120 bar to form a spray the drops of which have a mean size that is less than 150 &#x3bc;m. The spray is directed substantially parallel to and in the same direction as the direction of the air flow. The spray is introduced at a position in the duct section where the air velocity is at least 40 percent of the final velocity at the compressor inlet, so that the drops of the liquid spray are caused to acquire a slip ratio of at least 0.8 at the compressor inlet.

Method for cleaning a stationary gas turbine unit during operation

A system and method for washing engines and for collecting and treating the waste water from engine washing operations. The system includes a collecting device for collecting waste liquid during a washing operation of the engine and a treatment device for treating waste liquid collected during the washing operation. The system may be advantageously arranged on a mobile cart having a chassis provided with wheels. The mobile cart also includes an adjusting device for adjusting the vertical position of liquid separating and collecting components relative to the engine.
