A carrier assembly for a gun comprises a gun bolt carrier disposed to reciprocate axially with respect to the central axis of the gun, and a gun bolt disposed to reciprocate axially within the carrier. The gun bolt has a locking groove therein. The assembly also comprises a bolt locking mechanism extending through a portion of the bolt carrier to selectively engage the locking groove and thereby prevent the bolt from moving with respect to the carrier. The assembly further comprises a generally axial groove in a non-reciprocating portion of the gun that engages and selectively rotates the rotatable bolt locking mechanism to selectively lock the bolt to the carrier.

Gun bolt locking mechanism

A firing mechanism for a rotary machine gun is disclosed. The machine gun includes a housing that rotatably mounts a rotor assembly. The rotor assembly is configured to receive a plurality of ammunition rounds and includes a plurality of firing pins. The firing mechanism includes a percussion system that is disposed on the housing and operates to engage each of the firing pins as the rotor assembly rotates. The percussion system delivers a mechanical force to one of the plurality of ammunition rounds. The firing mechanism further includes an electrical contact that is connected to an electrical power source. The electrical contact is disposed in the housing to contact each of the firing pins as the rotor assembly rotates and to deliver electrical energy to the one ammunition round.

Firing mechanism for a rotary machine gun

An ammunition round reorienter is equipped with a gear train having parallel drive paths connecting a common motor to concurrently rotate a platform about a vertical axis and to pivot a tray about a horizontal axis, such that an ammunition round carried by the tray is reoriented both in azimuth and elevation as it is translated between receiving and handoff orientations.
