A liquid level indicator, suitable for determining the level of a volatile liquid within a container, includes temperature sensors spaced vertically apart from each other. A processor processes the outputs of the temperature sensors and produces an indication, such as an audible indication by an audible alert device, when liquid level is detected. The determination of liquid level can be by one or more of various temperature processing techniques, including difference in temperature between temperature sensors, and/or difference in temperature over time at one or more of the temperature sensors.

Liquid level indicators

A level detector comprises an array of light emitting devices mounted in a line parallel to an array of light receiving devices, the arrays being mounted within a housing capable of internally reflecting light from the emitting devices to respective receiving devices unless the respective parts of the level sensor are immersed in liquid. The outer internally-reflecting surface of the housing is preferable a continuous straight-line surface along the direction parallel to the arrays.

Level sensors

In a piezoelectric acoustic alarm piezoelements ( ) each excited by a square-wave voltage are arranged opposite each other in a resonance cavity ( ) and each oscillate in opposing directions. The two square-wave voltages (V , V ) controlled by a microprocessor ( ) are phase displaced by a square-wave pulse length and are positive or negative. A piezo-sound source designed and excited in this way is characterised by a high sound volume with low current consumption and small size.

Piezoelectric acoustic alarm

A motion sensor having an electrically-conductive ball and at least a second ball to damp the motion of the electrically-conductive ball. Both balls are confined within a housing. A plurality of electrical contact elements are disposed within the housing. During movement, the electrically-conductive ball successively forms electrical connection with the electrical contact elements within the housing. The motion sensor also includes detection circuitry in electrical connection with the electrical contact elements to detect if the electrically-conducting ball is moving.

The present invention provides a self-contained breathing apparatus ('SCBA') having a personal alert safety system ('PASS') fully integrated therewith. The PASS is structurally integrated with the SCBA such that it is protected from damage by both the air cylinder and the frame. The integrated PASS device is not only automatically activated when the SCBA is being used but can still be activated manually if the SCBA is not in service. Additionally, the integrated PASS device utilizes a unique electrical/mechanical connection assembly between its various parts which greatly increases its ruggedness and durability.

Self-contained breathing apparatus having a personal alert safety system

Medical infusion apparatus comprises a housing in which a standard flexible liquid reservoir is disposed. A constant-force spring applies pressure to the reservoir to force liquid out of the reservoir and along a conduit to a patient. The spring is energized by the opening of a lid of the housing which permits replacement of the reservoir. The liquid flowing out of the reservoir passes through a molded conduit part which is configured so that it is positioned at a predetermined location with respect to a flow monitor. The flow monitor injects a pulse of heat, and detects the rate at which the heat pulse travels along the conduit. A microprocessor uses the sensed flow rate to control a stepper motor which regulates fluid flow by squeezing the conduit via a spring-biased member. The apparatus has active and standby modes in which the monitor is operated respectively more and less frequently.

A movement sensor having a movable part, detection means for providing a first detection signal when the part is in one position and a second detection signal when the part is in a different position, and means for producing an alarm signal in response to the first and second detection signals being successively provided after initiation of the operation of the sensor irrespective of the order in which said signals are provided.

Movement sensor

Oil mist detecting apparatus comprises a measuring chamber which receives air, and oil mist if present, from an engine compartment. The apparatus includes a radiation source which emits light into the measuring chamber, and the radiation sensor which is so disposed as to receive light scattered by oil mist in the chamber. A second radiation source is preferably provided for testing purposes, the second source being arranged to emit radiation directly to the sensor.

Apparatus for monitoring engines

A container (2) such as a plant holder is provided with formations at its lower end to enable it to be stacked on other such holders in a staggered formation so that none of the supporting containers need be closed off. The containers are polygonal, so that they can be interlocked in edge to edge formation A or corner to corner formation B. Drain holes are provided so as to enable the upper containers of an array to drain into the lower ones and then to supporting trays (3).
