An exemplary rotational assembly includes a base having a circular collar and first and second arms that rotate about the circular collar in opposite angular directions. In a stored state the arms have substantially the same angle relative to the circular collar; in a deployed state the arms have rotated into opposing positions. Each end of a Nitinol wire is coupled to the first and second arms and contracts when heated by the flow of electrical current. This contraction causes the simultaneously application of a rotational force to the first and second arms causing the first and second arms to rotate about the circular collar in opposite angular directions. The simultaneous counter rotating angular forces during rotation of the arms causes no substantial change in angular inertia at the base.

Electrically activated pivot assembly

There is provided a patient care and treatment platform that is connectable to a plurality of modules capable of providing medical functionality. The platform includes a housing and a patient support surface. The platform also includes a power receiver for receiving power. The platform further includes a module interface including power, data, and pneumatic spines having power data and pneumatic ports, respectively. The spines are operative to transfer data, power, and fluid within the platform. The ports are connectable to the modules to integrate the modules into the platform. The platform also includes a head fairing having a patient interface panel. The head fairing includes an inner surface that is substantially concave in shape and slopes away from the patient support surface to allow access to the head of a patient. The patient interface panel includes a plurality of ports connectable to electrical and pneumatic apparatus.

Modular transportable life support device

There is provided a foldable, portable, trauma treatment and monitoring patient platform. The patient platform includes an upper housing body including a top surface and an upper patient support surface. The patient platform also includes a lower housing body including a rear surface and a lower patient support surface. The upper and lower patient support surfaces are cooperative to collectively support a patient. The lower housing and upper housing are in pivotal communication to enable selective articulation about a pivoting axis between a closed orientation and an open orientation. In the closed orientation, the upper patient support surface is substantially flush with the lower patient support surface. In the open orientation, the upper patient support surface and lower patient support surface are substantially co-planar. A bay capable of receiving at least one medical monitoring/treatment unit is located within at least one of the upper and lower housing bodies.

Foldable, portable trauma treatment and monitoring patient platform

A transportable life support system for providing medical care to a patient while transporting the patient from one location to another has a platform configured to receive the patient, a plurality of medical devices attached to the platform for providing medical monitoring and medical therapy to the patient, and a control and display panel comprising controls and displays for the medical devices. The control and display panel provides a centralized location for monitoring and controlling the medical devices so as to mitigate a need for an operator to move about the platform in order to individually observe a display for each medical device and to individually control each medical device.

Control and display configuration layout

An environmental protection system for rendering biological/chemical agents harmless has a source of radiation such as an ultraviolet light source, which is configured to irradiate a reactive surface, such as one formed of titanium dioxide. The reactive surface has an oxidation potential sufficient to cooperate with the source of radiation so as to render harmless biological/chemical agents in contact with the reactive surface.

Environmental protection system

A self-contained isolation and environmental protection life support system for shielding a patient contained therein or, alternatively, isolating a contaminated patient from a clean environment while allowing treatment of traumatic injuries to the patient. The system comprises the combination of an environmental control system (ECS) and a containment enclosure that are designed to function in concert with conventional life support stretcher. The ECS component possesses an air management system that is designed and configured to extract contaminated particles and gas from the external air and deliver the same to the patient contained within the containment enclosure. To facilitate such delivery, the containment enclosure is preferably provided with a plurality of tubular passages which are designed to be filled with air provided by the ventilator system to thus cause the containment enclosure to expand to form a semi-rigid structure. A multiplicity of apertures formed upon the tubular passages that causes the purified air to pass therethrough and wash over the patient in a head-to-toe direction such that rapid removal of toxic residues is facilitated. The system further includes heating and cooling systems integrated into the ECS coupled with an environmental sensor to regulate attemporated air to a desired temperature depending on the conditions of the external environment.

Self-contained isolation and enviromental protection system

An isolation bag for isolating a casualty from a contaminated environment. The bag is preferably fabricated from a transparent, biochemically resistive material and is specifically designed and configured to be utilized in combination with a self-contained transportable life support system. The isolation bag is further provided with a plurality of tubular passages which are designed to be filled with air provided by the transportable life support system to thus cause the isolation bag to expand and form a semi-rigid structure. A multiplicity of apertures are formed upon the tubular passages in such a manner that enables refreshed air to pass therethrough which washes over the patient in a head-to-toe direction such that rapid removal of toxic and infectious residues is facilitated.
