The invention relates to a method for determining the spatial concentration of the various components of a mixture, in particular of a gas mixture in a combustion chamber, of a motor for example; a laser beam is hereby directed into the combustion chamber; the laser beam brings the particles of the mixture to radiate, whereas this light of the particles is passed backward through a masked lens and is imaged on a display as a radiating surface and the radial intensity distribution is recorded by an array photodetector, whereas the spatial concentration of individual components of the particle mixture may be measured from the radial intensity distribution.

Method for determining the spatial concentration of the components of a gas mixture in a combustion chamber

The method for splitting and reflecting beams in a laser scanning microscope which produces a laser beam (,) comprises the steps of: reflecting a beam from a partially reflecting mirror (,); splitting the laser beam (,) with a splitting device into partial beams (,); causing the partial beams to travel in a plane; directing the partial beams to a sample under investigation; providing the partially reflecting mirror (,) with a constant transmission; placing the partially reflecting mirror between two high reflectivity mirrors (,); transmitting the laser beam (,) to one of the high reflectivity mirrors (,); reflecting said beam (,) to the other one of the high reflectivity mirrors (,) with basically equal attenuation; repeatedly transmitting the beam to one of the mirrors; and repeatedly reflecting the beam to the other one of said mirrors (,); arranging the partially reflecting mirror and the high reflectivity mirrors (,) relative to each other to cause beams (,) reflected by the partially reflecting mirror (,) not to coincide with beams reflected by said high-reflectivity mirrors (,); shifting forwardly, at an exit region of the splitting device, an edge of the partially reflecting mirror (,) along an edge of one of the high-reflective mirrors (,); and shifting rearwardly an edge of the other high-reflective mirror (,).

Method and apparatus for contactless locally resolved instantaneous measurement of the density and/or temperature of a gas in a measurement volume which can have a relatively large area and a relatively small thickness, wherein by laser radiation two rotational transitions of a molecular constituent of the gas excitation in which the excited state has a life time which is substantially shorter than the reciprocal collision frequency in the gas, and wherein the fluorescence intensity or absorption corresponding to the two rotational transitions is measured. From the measured intensities the density and temperature can be calculated.
