An apparatus and method are provided that can effectively improve a paging scheme of a traditional cellular system. Basically, the apparatus includes a controller (cell load monitor) which operates to determine when a paging distribution handler should forward a low priority page request to a mobile station in order to decrease a processing (blind) load on a processor and to decrease a load on the air interface resources. The controller utilizes a current paging load (first embodiment) and/or a current traffic load (second embodiment) as a factor to help determine when the low priority page request should be forwarded to the mobile station.

Apparatus and method for automatically controlling the forwarding of low priority page requests

The present invention relates to an arrangement for providing mobile stations in a mobile vehicle with radio coverage. It comprises a mobile base station which is arranged within the mobile vehicle and which serves at least one mobile cell provided in the mobile vehicle, internal antenna means arranged within the mobile vehicle for providing communication with the mobile stations in the mobile vehicle and external communication means for providing communication between the mobile vehicle and the core network. When the mobile base station and the mobile cells handled thereby are stationary within a fixed cell, at least for a given time period, the mobile base station is docked in said fixed cell such that handovers are allowed between the mobile cell served by the mobile base station and the fixed cell. The invention also relates to a method of providing mobile stations in a mobile vehicle with radio coverage and to a communication system comprising such an arrangement.

Arrangement, system and method relating to mobile communications

A radio network handling arrangement handles radio communication in a number of cells in a cellular communication network. The radio network handling arrangement includes a device for assignment of traffic channels and parameter for storing cell parameter information. Signal strength information holding devices are also provided. The arrangement further includes load monitors for holding information about the traffic load in at least a number of cells. The traffic assignment device includes a device for using information about cell parameters and about signal strength measurements for a number of cells to establish if there are any neighboring cells available as cell candidates for a mobile station accessing an access cell. The traffic load information relating to the access cell and such available cells is used in such a way that a load dependent assignment can be performed for a mobile station accessing an access cell.

Arrangement, system and method relating radio communication

A system and method in a wireless communications environment maximizes voice quality in low capacity situations. A Mobile services Switching Centre (MSC) that is associated with a base station of a cell is capable of assigning speech calls of mobile terminals to either a full-rate (FR) or a half-rate (HR) channel. The FR channels provide better transmitted voice quality but consume twice the bandwidth (two time slots versus only one for HR channels). When occupied cell capacity is low, an MSC assigns connections to FR channels. After occupied cell capacity reaches a predetermined threshold value, the MSC assigns connections to HR channels whenever possible. Also, handover procedures can reclaim available capacity by switching a connection from a FR to a HR channel. The superior voice quality of the FR channels are therefore provided to mobile terminal users more often.
