Systems and methods are implemented for evaluating underground structures and objects, particularly relatively shallow underground structures and objects, using a seismic or acoustic source signal and a resulting seismic or acoustic wave. A discrete or unitary apparatus incorporates both a seismic source transducer and a receiver transducer within a common housing or frame. A unitary seismic probe includes a ground engaging member and a seismic source mechanically coupled to the ground engaging member. The probe further includes a sensor assembly mechanically coupled to the ground engaging member and configured to sense ground vibrations resulting from an impact to the ground engaging member by the seismic source.

Seismic source/receiver probe for shallow seismic surveying

A system to detect subsurface activity. The system employs vibration sensor pairs, with each sensor pair having a shallow sensor and a deep sensor. Outputs of the sensors of a pair are processed together and events are detected based on the relative values detected by the sensors of the pair. When signal energy departs from a detected background level, the relative amplitude and frequency content of vibrations measured at the shallow and deep sensors may be compared. The comparison may be performed, at least in part, using a classifier that discriminates between subsurface activity and surface activity. The outputs of sensor pairs may be aggregated to make a determination of whether subsurface activity exists and/or its location. Aggregation may involve comparing the outputs of the same sensor pair at multiple time intervals or may involve comparing the outputs of arrayed sensor pairs.

Subsurface intrusion detection system

The invention relates to a seismic system having an array of nodes, each capable of emitting and detecting seismic signals. The array of nodes is mounted on a mobile platform in a certain geometry and is configured to acquire subsurface data, and more particularly detect shallow buried objects, while being translated over a surface. Such a seismic system allows for high subsurface point redundancy by providing a large number of channels of data used to sum the energy at a point in the subsurface. In other aspects, the invention relates to methods for processing the acquired data to increase signal-to-noise ratio. In still other aspects, the invention relates to methods for imaging the data for visualization on a display.

Systems and methods for detecting shallow buried objects

A system and method for reducing acoustic, wind or other background noise that may interfere with sensing of a seismic signal is provided. More specifically, a shield is provided to enclose a geophone and thereby protect it from harmful noise. The shield may comprise a rigid shell, a structural damping material, an acoustically absorptive material, and a compliant seal for coupling the shield to the ground or reference surface.

Windshield and sound-barrier for seismic sensors

The methods and systems relate to tracking targets, and more particularly to tracking multiple targets within a field of densely distributed sensor nodes using wave processing/analysis methods applied to 'target-waves' in an observable physical phenomena. The 'target-waves' are target induced perturbations of a physical phenomena that are analogous to a propagating wave where the wave propagation velocities are equal to the target velocities. The term &#x201c;target&#x201d; refers to an individual object, or a group of objects that can be treated as an entity, whose position, speed, direction, separation, etc. is of interest to a user. Some examples, not exclusive, are military vehicles (e.g. tanks) along a road, people on sidewalks or in halls, and ships at sea.
