A probe tube subassembly for a sampling apparatus, and related systems and methods are disclosed. The probe tube subassembly includes a probe tube, a retaining sleeve connected to the probe tube, an inner sleeve positioned within the retaining sleeve and comprising apertures, sample tubes, each extending within the probe tube and through a respective one of the apertures, and a sample head positioned within the inner sleeve and including a pocket located at a distal end portion thereof. The sample head is axially slidable within the inner sleeve between an extended position where the pocket is exposed to an ambient environment, and a retracted position where the pocket is covered by the inner sleeve. The disclosed subassembly and related apparatus, systems, and methods provide improved performance and ease of servicing, among other advantages.

Reactor sampling apparatus, system, and method

An interferometer wherein an incident beam from a radiation source hits a beam splitter at a first oblique angle of incidence and is split into a first, reflected partial beam, and a second, transmitted partial beam, that subsequently travel along separate arms of the interferometer. The first and second partial beams are respectively intercepted, reflected, and re-split to form returning beam portions and reflected and transmitted exit beam portions. A second terminal mirror and a folding mirror, which intercepts the second partial beam at a second oblique angle of incidence, are associated with the second interferometer arm and positioned orthogonal to the reference plane and on opposite sides of the exit path, so that a section of the second partial beam from the folding mirror to the terminal mirror and back to the folding mirror crosses the exit beam twice.

Interferometer for Fourier transform infrared spectrometry

An adapter for releasably securing a probe to a reaction vessel. Embodiments of the adapter include a cover plate for mating with a reaction vessel, a body portion extending from the cover plate, and a probe gripping portion secured to the body portion. A collet and at least one anvil resides within the body portion/probe gripping portion assembly. The collet has at least one split conical end that may be divided into a plurality of flexible gripping fingers, the conical end of the collet adapted to mate with the at least one anvil. An o-ring is preferably located in the body portion and surrounds a probe when the probe is passed through the adapter. Pressure from the reaction vessel exerts an axial force on the o-ring which, in turn, exerts a like force on the anvil, thereby causing the gripping fingers of the collet to exert a gripping force on the probe.

An sampling device for capturing a material sample and a method of using said device to process said material sample in situ within the device. Embodiments of the invention may be disposed as elongate probes having extendable sample capture elements. A sample capture element of such a device may include a sample capture pocket located near a distal end thereof for capturing and trapping a sample of material. The sample capture pocket may be provided with a port for receiving material therein and a port for expelling material therefrom. These ports may be placed in communication with corresponding material transfer channels extending through the sample capture element to allow for the in situ processing of a material sample, and the subsequent discharge of the sample to an analyzer or another downstream location.

Sampling device and method of use thereof

A system and method for releasably coupling an extendable element to an actuator. Such a system may include an actuator housing with a specially adapted integral connecting end having a cavity therein. An extendable element may extend into the cavity through an opening in the connecting end of the housing and be coupled to a motive element of the actuator by a rotatable collar that resides in the cavity. A cover plate forms a part of the actuator housing connecting end. The cover plate compliments the integral portion of the connecting end and, in conjunction therewith, encloses the collar and the coupled portion of the extendable element. A substantially hollow end cap is passed over the extendable element and releasably attached to the actuator housing to enclose the distal connecting end thereof. In some embodiments, the coupled extendable element may reciprocate within an outer tube that is also releasably attached to the actuator housing.

System and method for coupling an extendable element to an actuator

Provided herein is a portable thermocycler, comprising: (i) a case; (ii) a rotary plate in the case; (iii) a plurality of heating blocks arranged in a geometric pattern disposed on the rotary plate; and (iv) at least one vessel adapted to move and contact at least two of the plurality of heating blocks; wherein each of the heating blocks comprises a heating plate maintained at a set temperature over a thermally insulating material; wherein the geometric pattern comprises a number of center heating blocks arranged in a shape defining a polygon and a number of outside heating blocks disposed around the periphery of the rotary plate; and wherein the rotary plate includes a plurality of rotating wheels adapted to rotate at least one of the vessels into contact with each of the heating blocks.

Fully automated portable DNA detection system

An in situ sampling device for capturing a material sample from a vessel. Embodiments of the present invention may be disposed as elongate probes having extendable sample capture elements. A sample capture element of such a device may include a concave sample capture pocket located near a distal end thereof. The sample capture pocket is adapted to capture a known volume of material when the sample capture element is extended into said material. The material sample remains trapped in the sample capture pocket upon sample capture element retraction. The sample capture pocket may be provided with a port for receiving material therein and a port for expelling material therefrom. These ports may be placed in communication with corresponding material transfer channels extending through the sample capture element. A device of the present invention provides for substantially contemporaneous sample capture and sample processing.

Sampling device

An in situ autosampling method and associated sampling device for capturing a material sample from a vessel. Methods of the present invention make use of a sampling device having an extendable sample capture element with a concave sample capture pocket located near a distal end thereof. The sample capture pocket is adapted to capture a known volume of material when the sample capture element is extended into said material. The material sample remains trapped in the sample capture pocket upon sample capture element retraction. Ports in the sample capture pocket may be placed in communication with corresponding material transfer channels extending through the sample capture element to allow for the in situ processing of a material sample, and the subsequent discharge of the sample to an analyzer or another downstream location.

Sampling device and method

A method and apparatus of controlling the flow of a fluid is disclosed which includes a frame having first and second opposite sides, a plurality of flexible hollow tubular shaped elements positioned so as to extend between the first and second sides of the frame, and a mechanism connected to at least the first side of the frame for compressing opposite lateral edges of the first and second sheets of the flexible elements towards and away from one another so as to flex the first and second sheets of each of the flexible elements towards and away from each other and thus adjust fluid flow spacings between neighboring flexible elements. The method of controlling the flow of the gas includes the step of flowing the fluid between neighboring hollow tubular elements and biasing the first and second splines towards one another so as to flex the sheets of the tubular elements away from one another and towards neighboring tubular elements so as to adjust the opening between the neighboring tubular elements.

Laminar damper and method of airflow control

Disclosed is a panel which includes a pan having at least one side member with an upper edge portion, the pan having contained therein a fluid based cementitious material pressed for removal of water while within the pan, and at least one trim member attached to the upper edge portion of the side member of the pan, the trim member undergoing telescoping action upon pressing of the material in the pan so as to be rigidly secured to the upper edge portion of the side member of the pan. Also disclosed is an apparatus and process for production of the pan.

Composite concrete floor panel

A structural steel member and composite panel including the same and having a sheet of industrial steel having formed therein a pattern of dome-like projections, extending from the plane of the sheet, and of which at least the major portion of each projection is substantially circular in plan view and the projections are arranged in a geometric pattern that substantially limits the elongation of the material to the areas defined by the circular configurations, the dome-like projections also having formed in the peak areas thereof small truncated cones having a flattened uppermost planar surface, parallel to the original plane of said sheet, providing superior overall depth and increased resistance to crushing. When employed in the form of a composite panel, a flat load bearing steel sheet extends across and is fixed to the flattened surfaced of the peak areas, such as by welding, and affords advantageous union of the sheets to form such a composite panel, suitable for use, such as in the art of access flooring.
