A lighting control module comprises an interface for receiving a dimming setting and a memory for storing the dimming setting. Based on the dimming setting, an output circuit generates a dimming control signal for application to a conventional dimming interface of a lighting driver circuit. For this purpose, power is received from the dimming interface. This provides a simple to use way to implement a controllable brightness, which makes use of a dimming driver but used for a luminaire which does not need to be within a networked dimmable system architecture.

Lighting control module, a lighting system using the same and a method of setting a dimming level

A lighting controller and method has light sources which are activated for a respective lighting duration in a repeating non-overlapping sequence. The end of the lighting duration for one light source is detected for triggering the switching on of the next light source in the sequence. This provides non-overlapping control of the light sources and provides an efficient and easy to implement the required controller.

Method of controlling a lighting arrangement, a lighting controller and a lighting system

A display device comprising a light guide (), a front plate (), and an intermediate electromechanically operable foil (). Two electrode layers () are arranged on either side of the foil () to induce electrostatic forces on the foil () and to bring selected portions of the foil into contact with the light guide (), thereby extracting light from the light guide (). The second electrode layer () is arranged on the opposite side of the light guide () with reference to the foil (), and separated from the light guide () by means of a refractive layer (). As no electrode layer is required on the light guide itself, the light path of rays extracted from the light guide is cleaner, and the absorption of light is reduced. The light guide can have a thickness such that the light extracted from the light guide per unit length is sufficient to allow for line-at-a-time addressing.

Line-at-a-time foil display

A high efficiency lighting system () is described that has a small etendue. This can be used, for example, for backlighting a display device such as a liquid crystal display (LCD), projection displays, as well as for general lighting purposes. A portion of the light from a light emitting device die () falls onto a fluorescent material (), such as phosphor. Dichroic mirrors () prevent the light generated by the fluorescent material to return to the light-emitting device. The mirrors may also provide collimation of the generated light and the remainder of the light from the light-emitting device. In this way a high efficiency system is realized because little or no generated light is absorbed and the generated light does not have to travel through a fluorescent material layer and thus has a high chance to go in the desired direction.

Lighting system with dichromatic surfaces

The electrophoretic display panel() for displaying a picture and subsequently displaying a subsequent picture has a pixel() having an electrophoretic medium () having first and second charged particles () and an optical state depending on the positions of the particles () in the common region () of the pixel (). Furthermore, transition control means are able to control a transition of the first and the second particles () being in substantially separated domains of the common region () for displaying the picture to substantially separated domains of the common region () for displaying the subsequent picture. For the display panel () to be able to have an attainable optical state for displaying the subsequent picture which is unequal to the optical state determined by the mixture of the first and second particles (), even if the particles () have substantially equal electrophoretic mobilities, the transition control means are further able to control the first and the second particles () to be in substantially separated domains of the common region () during the transition.

Electrophoretic display panel

A light source, includes a component () for emitting light, arranged to emit a major part of light generated within the component through a face () of the component (), and at least one structure () for coupling out light, having a base () in contact with the face () of the component () and arranged to emit light through an aperture () opposite the base (). An interface between the component () and an environment surrounding the base () is arranged to keep at least part of the light generated in the component confined to at least a layer of the component () adjoining the base (). The base () is in contact with the face () over an area (A) smaller than the area (A) of the face ().

Light source and method of providing a bundle of light

A display device () comprising a plurality of lighting units (), each lighting unit comprising at least one light emitting diode () being provided with a fluorescent element () arranged to absorb at least part of the light emitted by said light emitting diode and emit light of a wavelength range different from that of the absorbed light is provided. The fluorescent element () comprises at least one phosphor being an europium(II)-activated halogeno-oxonitridosilicate of the general formula EaSiN:EuOX.

Display device with solid state fluorescent material

The invention relates to a lamp assembly for illuminating a surface comprising a cavity () having a substantially diffuse reflective surface (), said cavity having an open aperture () facing said surface to be illuminated, and a plurality of light emitting diodes (A,B,C) capable of emitting visible light (L, L, L). The light emitting diodes are arranged on or near said diffuse reflective surface of said cavity such that light emitted from said light emitting diodes is capable of reflecting from said diffuse reflective surface towards said surface to be illuminated.

Lamp assembly

A light-emitting device, comprising at least a first light source () and a second light source () is provided. The light source further comprises a first collimating means () for collimating light from the first light-source and a second collimating means () for collimating light from said second light source wherein the output areas of the collimating means at least partly overlaps. A light guiding means () is arranged between said light sources and said collimating means for guiding light from the first light source to the first light collimating means, and from the second light source to the second collimating means. A light-emitting device of the present invention can provide well mixed and collimated light even though there is a distance between the light sources and the collimating means.

Light collimation and mixing of remote light sources

The invention relates to a lamp assembly () for illuminating a surface (S) comprising a chamber () accommodating a plurality of light-emitting diodes (R,G,B) capable of emitting visible light. The lamp assembly comprises diffusing means () capable of diffusing said visible light of said light-emitting diodes to produce diffuse light (D), and said chamber further accommodates collimation means () arranged to collimate at least a portion of said diffused light for illuminating said surface. The lamp assembly is especially suitable for ambiance and atmosphere lighting applications.

A lighting device is provided for projecting a pixelated lighting pattern to be viewed onto a surface facing said device is provided. The device comprises a plurality of independently controllable lighting units (), each lighting unit comprising at least one light-emitting diode (), and a controller () for controlling the emission of light from said lighting units. A device according to the present invention allows ambient illumination of a surface and projection of images and patterns.

Device for projecting a pixelated lighting pattern

An optical separating filter separates impinging light into a first and a second part having different properties. The separating filter comprises reflective filters (FR) arranged in funnel shaped structures (F). Each one of the structures (F) have an inlet area (IA) to receive the impinging light (IL) and an outlet area (OA) smaller than the inlet area. (IA) to converge reflected impinging light (RL) towards the outlet area (OA). The structures (F) comprise a first group of funnel shaped structures (F) constructed to reflect light which has a first property (C) towards their respective first outlet areas (OA) and for transmitting light which has a second property (C) towards respective second outlet areas (OA).

Optical separating filter

An electrophoretic display panel for displaying a picture has a pixel having an electrophorectic medium having first and second charged particles, the first charged particles having a first optical property, the second charged particles having a second optical property different from the first optical property, and an optical state depending on positions of the particles. Furthermore, particle movement apparatus is arranged to enable a picture movement of the first and the second particles to their respective position for displaying the picture, and particles movement decoupling apparatus is arranged to provide unequal abilities of the first and the second particles to move for substantially decoupling the picture movement of the first particles from the picture movement of the second particles.

The display panel () comprises a light guide (), a second plate () and a movable element () between both plates for locally decoupling light out of the light guide (). Voltages, applied to electrodes (resp.), associated with the light guide (), the second plate () and the movable element (), locally bring the movable element () into 5 contact with the light guide plate () or the second plate (). If, between the light guide () and the first electrodes () a layer () is present with a second refractive index being smaller than the first refractive index of the light guide (), and the light guide () is positioned between the first electrodes () and the movable element (), absorption of the light transported through the light guide plate () is reduced, providing a display panel () with 10 improved power efficiency.
