The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods involving a power converter and various control schemes in which the power converter is able to monitor and intelligently manage various operational scenarios such as startup and shutdown of a fuel cell, load sharing among two or more available power sources, and exporting excess power from one available power source to a different power source, as well as transient step up and step down load situations requiring an immediate increase or decrease in the power being provided to a load. Various hierarchical power converter control schemes are also disclosed for addressing different types of operational scenarios, which enable the power converter to centrally manage some or all of the available power sources to optimally use all of the power supplying resources available to it to best meet the requirements of the load.

System and method for intelligent power converter control of fuel cells and other auxiliary power sources

The present disclosure relates to a power supply management system adapted for use with at least one utility proxy power source, to control powering first and second loads when an AC mains power source is not available to provide power to the loads. The system uses an internal DC bus of a power converter to receive power from a utility proxy, and a DC/DC converter/charger of the power converter to receive power from a short term supplemental battery subsystem. The DC/DC converter/charger is used to supply a first AC output signal to power the first load. An AC/DC rectifier of the power converter uses the DC power from the utility proxy, supplied onto the internal bus, to generate a second AC output signal which is applied independently to the second load to power the second load fully independently of the first load.

Power supply management system and method for use with one or multiple different utility proxies

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system with stranded power recovery has a plurality of UPS modules with one or more of the UPS modules usable to provide stranded power to a recovered power bus. When a UPS module is used to provide stranded power to the recovered power bus, the AC/AC converter associated with that UPS module provides AC power that is synchronized with AC power being provided to the recovered power bus by each of the other AC/AC converters that are providing AC power. In this manner all of the AC/AC converters that are providing AC power to the recovered power bus have the same voltage, the same frequency, and are in phase.

Uninterruptible power supply system having stranded power recovery

The present disclosure relates to a power supply management system adapted for use with at least one utility proxy power source, to help control powering a load when an AC mains power source is not available to provide power to the load. The system has a power converter forming an uninterruptible power supply, and includes a controller configured to control operation of the power converter. A supplemental battery subsystem is included which is in communication with the power converter for supplying DC power to the power converter. The controller monitors the application of power from the utility proxy to the load and uses the DC power supplied by the supplemental battery subsystem, when needed, to supplement the generation of power by the power converter, to thus assist the power converter in powering the load along with the power being provided by the utility proxy.

The present disclosure relates to a system for controlling power walk-in for an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) being switched to receive AC power from an AC generator. The system may have a control system and a power walk-in (PWI) subsystem. The PWI subsystem may be controlled in part by the control system. The PWI subsystem may be configured to control at least one of an input current or an input power of an AC signal being provided by an AC generator during a power walk-in operation to attempt to maintain a minimum frequency of the AC signal from the AC generator during the power walk-in operation.

When the preferred voltage source for a static transfer switch is a UPS, there can be a brief interruption in the voltage received from the UPS while the UPS is switching from economy mode to normal mode. Operation of the static transfer switch can be improved during such voltage disturbances. Specifically, the static transfer switch may be in data communication with the UPS and thereby made aware that the voltage disturbance is temporary. As a result, the static transfer switch can avoid an unnecessary transfer to an alternate voltage source.

Techniques for improving operation of static transfer switches during voltage disturbances

A power supply includes a rectifier that converts an alternating current input voltage to a first direct current voltage. An inverter that converts the first direct current voltage to an alternating current output voltage. A first set of output terminals that receives the alternating current output voltage. A second set of output terminals that receives the first direct current voltage. A charging circuit that charges a backup power source based on the first direct current voltage. The rectifier receives a second direct current voltage from the backup power source based on the power supply operating in a predetermined condition.

AC and DC uninterruptible online power supplies

An electrical power transfer system for selectively connecting a load to a first power source or a second power source includes a first switch having an input selectively connected to the first power source and an output connected to the load. A second switch includes an input and an output connected to the load. An isolation device has its input connected to the second power source and its output connected to the input of the second switch to provide a continuous neutral path for the second power source and to isolate a neutral current path of the load from the second power source.

The present disclosure provides a method and system using a power protector, such as an uninterruptible power supply (power protector) or a power line conditioner. An input of the power protector can be coupled to an output of one or more of circuit breakers using electrical buss bars for unique modularity and easy installation and replacement. Further, an input of a second set of circuit breakers can be coupled to an output of the power protector to backfeed the power through the second set of circuit breakers and out through the buss bar to one or more electrical loads. Additional power protectors can be used for capacity and/or redundancy. A stacked buss bar system can be used that consolidates the system into a compact assembly heretofore unknown in the industry. In at least some embodiments, the system can be compatible with standard panelboards having circuit breakers disposed therein.
