A surface effect damper comprising a housing having a wall that defines a chamber, the housing having a first end, a second end and an axis; at least one contact element movable through the chamber between the housing ends in a first direction and in a second direction; and at least two damping elements substantially surrounding each contact element, each of the at least two damping elements being movable away from the axis and into frictional engagement with the wall as the at least one contact element is moved in a first direction and each of the at least two damping elements being movable toward the axis as the at least one contact element is moved in a second direction.

Surface effect damper

A suspension strut includes a housing assembly including first and second opposed housing members. The first and second housing members are relatively movable along an axis. At least the first housing member includes an engagement surface. At least one compressible spring member is interposed between the first and second housing members. The spring member includes a peripheral portion. The strut is configured such that, when the first and second housing members are relatively displaced along the axis in a prescribed direction, the spring member is axially compressed to provide a spring force opposing further relative displacement between the first and second housing members in the prescribed direction, and the peripheral portion frictionally engages the engagement surface over an area of engagement to provide dynamic damping between the first and second housing members.

Suspension strut with damping

The present invention relates to a power tool having a housing, a handle having an inlet passage and an outlet passage extending therethrough, and a pneumatic pressure seal/vibration isolator positioned between the handle. The present invention provides a tool that has an excellent handle to housing seal and does not exhibit heavy vibrations. The present invention is also the vibration isolator that seals the handle to the motor housing and reduces vibrational transmissions to a user. Also disclosed is a power tool having a vibration isolator coupled to the housing and handle, and a mechanism for allowing sliding rotation of the handle relative to the vibration isolator, thereby allowing the handle to point in a different direction other than toward the point of impact. The present invention also discloses a pneumatic power tool including a handle, a housing having a first longitudinal axis, and a vibration isolator rotatably coupling the handle to the housing, the vibration isolator including a central opening through which air passes that is not aligned with the first longitudinal axis.

Power tool and vibration isolator therefor

An alignment device for power tools is disclosed comprising a power tool attachment, typically a socket or an extension and an alignment ring mounted on an output shaft. The alignment ring is placed between the output shaft and a socket or extension. The alignment ring reduces the motion between the socket and the output shaft, thereby reducing wear on both the socket and the output shaft. Also, the use of the alignment ring allows the energy of the tool to be used in improving torque.
