A system for monitoring a patient for seizure activity may include one or more detection units. The detection units may include one or more electromyography sensors configured to evaluate a patient for seizure activity. The detection units may further include one or more sensors configured to detect an orientation of the patient and/or when a sensor is bearing a portion of the patient's weight or otherwise pressed against the patient. In some embodiments, methods of detection may include adjusting an algorithm for seizure detection based on a recognition of whether a muscle is constrained or whether the muscle is free to move.

Methods and apparatuses for detection and classification of seizures using EMG sensors

A monitoring system may include each of a left and a right side EMG detection device and may be configured to detect either seizure activity associated with the left side or right side of a patient's body. The system may further be configured to differentiate symmetric or asymmetric seizure activity. For example, the system may characterize whether left and right side EMG detectors show similar or dissimilar levels of activation during a suspected seizure. In some embodiments, the system may also include one or more orientation and/or position sensors. The system may be configured to determine the orientation and position of the sensor over time and to correlate this data with EMG signals.

Detection of EMG activity using sensors on both sides of the body

A manually-powered patient conveyor is disclosed in the form of a continuous belt which reduces friction beneath the patient to enable lateral patient transfer from one patient support surface to another. With the belt positioned beneath the patient, a caregiver can readily grip circumferencial handles on the belt to help pull the patient sideways from one surface to another, while borasilicate glass micro-bubbles or other lubricants are dispersed on the interior of the sleeve-like belt to further minimize friction during patient transfer.

Hyperbaric oxygen patient treatment system

A heat exchange system for cooling and/or heating the patient support surface of an inflatable support appliance such as a low air loss bed is disclosed. Tubing and bladders carrying a circulating heat exchange medium is used to locally heat or cool the air within the inflatable cushion, transferring heat to or away from the patient supporting surface. Specially designed cushions with pouches for hold the bladders in close proximity to the supporting surface without compromising the uniform support characteristics of the low air loss bed.

Heat exchange system for inflatable patient support appliances

The invention is to an apparatus for applying traction to an immobilized patient undergoing oscillatory therapy. The support means for weights has a portion on an oscillating support platform of the bed and part stationary beyond the oscillating portion with a cable contained partially within a conduit thereinbetween offset from the longitudinal center line of oscillating patient support.
