A method of determining the point-spread function (PSF) of an imaging system includes the steps of capturing image data, establishing an idealized source spot, establishing a functional form model, subtracting the captured image from the estimated image equation and determining a metric that measures the fit of the estimated image to the captured image. The functional form model may include both diffraction and aberration and stray light. The functional form model may be optimized to reduce the metric to an acceptable level.

A computer-aided method and an apparatus generates and displays, on a display device, an accurate predictive simulation of the appearance of a color pattern of a hypothetical heather yarn fabric, such as a tufted carpet, comprised of multiple candidate heather yarn components. Starting from a set of user-selected initial conditions a model is generated representing the appearance of a hypothetical heather yarn and the appearance that would be imparted to a hypothetical fabric made from that yarn. Parameters are incorporated into the model that relate appearance properties to actual yarn manufacturing process conditions. The resulting simulated-color coordinates are transformed into the typically radiometrically nonlinear color space of the particular display device to permit the colors to be accurately displayed so as to be properly perceptible to a viewer.

Predictive simulation of heather fabric appearance

A signal representative of the total incident flux on each area element of a target plane is generated. Each area element corresponds to a portion of the object from which the flux emanates. Each total incident flux signal is corrected to eliminate therefrom the effects of flux incident on the corresponding area element due to scattering, thereby to generate a signal representative of the flux incident on that area element emanating only from the portion of the object corresponding to that area element. The total incident flux signal is corrected by weighting each total incident flux signal in accordance with a predetermined weighting factor W(x,y), and summing the weighted signal representative of the total flux incident on an area element with a weighted total incident flux signal from each of the other area elements.

This invention relates to an imaging system with computer-controlled, multiple electronic image acquisition and assembly means for producing a graphical map from a stored wide-field-of-view high-resolution electronic image. The invention displays a contiguous small portion of the stored image within a display window and a cursor is superimposed on the image at a fixed position within the display window. The window can be roamed over the stored image for generating mapping marks from the fixed cursor and the mapping marks a stored in a separate memory.

Electronic mosaic imaging process

This invention relates to an imaging system with computer-controlled, multiple electronic image acquisition and assembly means for producing a high resolution, large-field electronic mosaic image from a series of smaller field image segments.

A 'flying field' computer aided interactive microscopical mapping system has been developed that enables an operator to map over a region of the specimen covering many microscopical fields of view without the discontinuities associated with moving the stage and then generating mapping marks as separate and discrete operations. By fixing the mark generation point at a single location on the display device corresponding to the instantaneous intersection of the microscope's optical axis with the specimen stage, a trail of marks are produced that move in unison with the stage motion to remain superimposed with the viewed live specimen image. The points thus recorded are available for later display and analysis.

Method for operating a microscopical mapping system

An automated system is used for the inspection of a transparent film which has been metallized by vaporizing a metal so that it impacts the film's surface at a preselected angle, wherein the metallized film sample is illuminated with a light source, and the transmitted light is passed through a microscope to a video camera, which produces a videoscan. The videoscan is digitized, stored in a computer memory, and processed pixel by pixel by the computer which calculates asperity height distribution from the number and lengths of metallizing shadows caused by asperities on the film surface. This method is especially useful for inspecting film to be used for recording devices, especially for video tapes, where accurate information on the asperity height distribution is required.

Method of film inspection with a microscopical image analyzer

Describes a method and system for improving the ability to quantitate the amount of flux or material in localized collections of such flux or material typically called a 'spot'. Quantitation of spots using a software algorithm which utilizes models in two opposite senses for quantitating peaks in a spot image of an electrophoresis gel is disclosed. The operating system includes a laser gel scanner module, a computer module, system peripherals, and analysis software.
