Embodiments include a protective helmet including a protective shell having an interior surface and an exterior surface. A padding layer is affixed to the interior surface. The padding layer includes a compliant material and a frangible material, such as glass foam. At least the frangible material is enclosed in a container. A detection circuit detects compromise of the frangible material, and outputs an indicator in the event the compromise is detected. The detection circuit may include a frangible wire configured to break in the event the frangible material is compromised. The indicator may include an LED, and/or radio-frequency signals. The radio-frequency signal may include an identifier for the helmet. The padding layer may include a plurality of pads each containing compliant material and frangible material. The plurality of pads may include one or more fasteners for releaseably affixing the pads to the interior surface of the protective shell.

Protective head gear

A protective helmet having a protective shell with an interior surface and an exterior surface. A padding layer is affixed to the interior surface. The padding layer comprises a compliant material and a frangible material, such as glass foam. At least the frangible material is enclosed in a container. Protective equipment having frangible energy absorbing elements

LED light assemblies () are spaced over a geographical territory defined by a central dispatch of public service personnel operating in the geographical territory and are controlled by transmitting digital packets on a first radio frequency reserved for public safety personnel from a central transceiver () to repeaters () in the geographical territory and re-transmitting the digital packets on a different second frequency reserved for public safety personnel from the repeaters () to the light assemblies (). In turn, the light assemblies () transmit digital radio signals on frequencies reserved for public safety personnel to the repeaters () for re-transmission to the central transceiver (). A plurality of emergency signaling devices () transmit digital radio signals on the channels of frequencies reserved for public safety personnel to the light assemblies () to transmit a radio signal on the reserved frequencies to the central transceiver (), a 9-1-1 alert or the like.

Networked light control system

An L.E.D. lamp assembly () includes an electrically insulative coating () disposed on a thermally conductive substrate (). A plurality of light emitting diodes () are secured to the coating () and a circuit () is adhesively secured to the coating () in predetermined spaced lengths () along the coating () to establish discrete and electrically conductive spaced lengths () with the light emitting diodes () disposed between the spaced lengths (). LED electrical leads () are secured to the spaced lengths () of the circuit () to electrically interconnect the light emitting diodes (). The circuit () includes a foil tape () having an electrically conductive tape portion () and a coupling portion () disposed on the tape portion () for securing the foil tape () to the insulated substrate (). Heat generated by the light emitting diodes () is transferred through the insulative coating () to the electrically and thermally conductive substrate () for dissipating the heat.

A light assembly () for mounting to a planar support includes an extruded heat sink () presenting a mounting surface () and a heat transfer surface () slanted from an upper border () to a lower border (). A panel block () depends from the lower border (), a lens block () depends from the upper border (), a back side () extends downwardly from the lens block (), a truss member () interconnects the back side () and the heat transfer surface (), and a mounting block () extends from the back side (). The extruded heat sink () is cut into independent elongated sections () and light emitting diodes () are disposed thereon. The elongated sections () are mitered to one another to define a frame. A light directing panel () extends from the panel blocks () and a lens sheet () extends from the lens blocks ().

Integral heat sink and housing light emitting diode assembly

A light emitting assembly () includes a plurality of light emitting diodes () (L.E.D.s) serially aligned along a mounting surface () and a light shield () is disposed adjacent each L.E.D. An exterior surface of one light shield () is exposed to light emitting from an adjacent light shield (). A non-reflective film () comprising a black color is painted over the exterior surface and a reflective material () is disposed over an interior surface of each light shield (). The light shields () comprise sections () defined by a triangular shape joining at a ridge () and extending upwardly from the mounting surface () at an angle to define an opening for emitting light. The light shields () are spaced from the L.E.D.s at desired locations and angles to achieve full cutoff light emissions.

Individual light shields

A light emitting assembly () includes a heat sink () defined by a plurality of independent sections (). Each section () includes walls () extending transversely from the mounting surface () to define an open container. Light emitting diodes () are disposed at the bottom of each open container. Each section () includes first fins () extending outwardly from the walls () and extending toward the first fins () of an adjacent section (). In one embodiment, the sections () can be cantilevered to a planar surface () extending longitudinally across an end wall () of each section (). In a second embodiment, the sections () can be interconnected by bridges () and then vertically mounted to a wall with a mounting bracket (). The sections () can include second fins () extending from a heat transfer surface () facing opposite the mounting surface (). The second fins () are disposed between the heat transfer surface () and the mounting bracket ().

A light emitting assembly includes an extruded heat sink () divided into a pair of elongated sections () with a plurality of light emitting diodes () disposed thereon. The elongated sections () present identical cross sections and are disposed in spaced and parallel relationship to mirror one another and define a fin space () therebetween. A plurality of fins () including bends () stamped therein are spring compressed between the elongated sections (). The fins () include shoes () at fin ends to space the fins () from one another in the fin space (). The fins () are retained in a fin channel () between a pair of ridges (). A solar shield () extends over and spaced from the electronics enclosure (). The solar shield () includes a closed solar top wall () and solar side walls (). The solar shield () defines an air inlet () adjacent a lower edge () of each of the solar side walls () and an air outlet () above the air inlet () at open solar ends () thereof for creating a chimney effect to move ambient air into the air inlet () and through an air flow space () to exit the air outlet ().

A light emitting assembly () is fabricated by forming a continuous strip of aluminum heat sink having a pair of fins () aligned with the side edges () and cutting the continuous strip into a plurality of elongated sections (). A coupling agent is disposed on a tape portion () of a foil tape (), and the foil tape () is secured to the coating () with the coupling agent in predetermined spaced lengths () along the coating () to establish discrete and electrically conductive spaced lengths () with the light emitting diodes () disposed between the spaced lengths (). Method of manufacturing an electrically driven LED lamp assembly

An L.E.D. light emitting assembly () includes a heat sink () defined by independent elongated sections () upwardly from a base () in parallel relationship. L.E.D.s () are disposed on a mounting surface () and fins () are disposed on a heat transfer surface () of the elongated sections (). The elongated sections () and base () are pivotably connected at a hinge (). The hinge () can include a spring (). A spreader () can pivot the elongated sections () about the hinge (). A flexible stop () with a resilient tip () is attached to top ends () of the elongated sections (). The elongated sections () are held together by a retainer (), such as a band (), and inserted through a narrow opening () of a globe (). A deployment mechanism () moves the elongated sections () to a non-parallel position to fill the globe ().

Globe deployable LED light assembly

An apparatus () for supplying regulated voltage d.c. electrical power to an LED array () includes a rectifier () responsive to a.c. power for generating rectified d.c. power and a power factor correcting and voltage regulating buck/boost switchmode converter () responsive to the rectified d.c. power for generating regulated voltage d.c. power to illuminate the LED array (). A battery backup system () receives the a.c. power applied to the rectifier () for charging a rechargeable battery () and sensing an a.c. power failure. A switch-over relay () is connected between the battery backup system () and the rectifier.
