The invention relates to a method in the control of the quality or the condition of a fibre web () on the basis of optical imaging diagnostics, wherein the fibre web () under examination and/or means () relating to the processing of the fibre web are monitored with at least one optical imaging measuring device (to N). According to the method, the scale of the observation area of said at least one imaging measuring device (to N) is calibrated, when said measuring device is taken into use, by means of one or more calibration objects placed in the observation area of the measuring device, to correct the perspective error caused by the position between said measuring device and the object () observed by it.

Method for determining the scale of an observation area

A method in the process of manufacturing and/or finishing a fiber web (), in which method the Continuous and moving web (), and/or a moving device () related to the processing of the web (), is monitored by one or more thermal cameras () of the infrared range or a corresponding detector/detectors for the purpose of controlling the quality or condition. A substantially continuous two-dimensional thermal image or continuous thermal chart () of an object () being monitored and in a propagating and/or rotating movement is formed by said detector/detectors in a time-resolved manner and in synchronization with the movement of the object () in the direction of the movement. To determine the properties of the object () and/or to detect defects in the object from the continuous thermal chart (), local deviations and/or discontinuities () in the temperature, particularly in the direction of movement are detected, and the cause of said deviations and/or discontinuities () is identified on the basis of the periodicity of said phenomena in the direction of movement.
