A mobile wireless communications device may include a plurality of antennas, a plurality of wireless transceivers, and signal processing circuitry. The device may further include a controller for selectively switching the signal processing circuitry to a desired one of the wireless transceivers, and for selectively switching a desired one of the antennas to the desired one of the wireless transceivers. Moreover, the controller may also be for selectively connecting and disconnecting the at least one other one of the antennas to an unused one of the wireless transceivers.

The disclosure describes methods of managing the power consumption of a GNSS receiver by identifying when to activate and deactivate the GNSS receiver, and by managing storage of GNSS location data points. In one embodiment, the GNSS receiver is activated if there is a change in wireless transmissions from stationary sources. In another embodiment, the GNSS receiver is deactivated when the GNSS signal quality is sufficient to calculate a GNSS location. In another embodiment, the GNSS receiver is deactivated for a time period in correlation with a GNSS speed. In yet another embodiment, redundant GNSS location data points are identified and only non-redundant data points are stored. In yet another embodiment, a GNSS device comprises a processor and a GNSS receiver configured to track GNSS signals and calculate a GNSS location. The GNSS receiver deactivates when the average signal quality value meets or exceeds the baseline signal value.

Systems and methods for managing power consumption of a GNSS receiver

A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing and includes radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor carried by the circuit board and operative with each other. A display connector for an LCD connector is mounted on the circuit board and adapted to be connected to a display. Display connection lines are carried by the circuit board and interconnect the display connector and processor for carrying signals from the processor to the display connector and a connected display. Filters are carried by the circuit board and connected to the display connection lines and reduce any interfering energy from the processor and display.

A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing an antenna, and radio frequency (RF) circuitry. A transceiver is connected to the antenna and a processor is operative with the RF circuitry. The transceiver includes an In-phase and Quadrature (I/Q) Modulation and Power Amplification circuit having an In-phase (I) circuit with a modulator mixer and power amplifier circuit. A Quadrature (Q) circuit includes a modulator mixer and power amplifier circuit. A power combiner receives the separately amplified In-phase and Quadrature signals and sums and outputs the signals as a combined I and Q signal. The I and Q circuits are isolated from the combined I and Q signal to enhance antenna matching and transmitted radiated power (TRP) and reduce harmonic emission from the power amplification circuits.

A multiple-band antenna having first and second operating frequency bands is provided. The antenna includes a first patch structure associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, a second patch structure electrically coupled to the first patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band, a first slot structure disposed between a first portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, and a second slot structure disposed between a second portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band. A mounting structure for the multiple-band antenna is also provided. The mounting structure includes a first surface and a second surface opposite to and overlapping the first surface.

More particularly, the at least one director element may include an electrically conductive main branch carried by the portable housing, and an electrically conductive connector portion extending between the main branch and the PCB.

In one embodiment, there is provided a method for determining a speed of a mobile electronic device, the mobile electronic device including a speed sensor and an input device, comprising: determining whether the mobile electronic device is travelling at a speed in excess of a first threshold based on input from the input device other than speed determined by a speed sensor; activating the speed sensor to determine the speed of the mobile electronic device responsive to determining that the mobile electronic device is travelling at a speed in excess of the first threshold based on input from the input device; determining whether a speed of the mobile electronic device sensed by the speed sensor exceeds the first threshold in responsive to the activating; and performing an action responsive to the speed of the wireless communication device sensed by the speed sensor exceeding the first threshold.

The mobile wireless communications device may further include a frequency/pattern diversity controller for controlling the wireless transceiver to preferentially operate with the plurality of antennas.

A speed parameter or channel quality parameter are determined in a mobile device based on variation in frequency offset measurement. A higher variation in the frequency offset measurement reflects a poorer channel quality and a higher speed; a lower variation in the frequency offset measurement reflects a better channel quality and a lower speed. The parameter(s) may be fed back to the system and used, for example, to make adaptive modulation and coding decisions.

A power distribution network includes multiple charge storage components and multiple charging circuits to control the charging and discharging of the charge storage components, which may comprise a battery and a supercapacitor. By appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, ripple in the power supply voltage, whose propagation to other components relying on the power distribution network may cause an audible buzz, may be significantly reduced. Additionally, appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, electromagnetic interference may also be significantly reduced. Optionally, an electromagnetic interference filter may be placed between the charge storage components.
