A read only input system provides a source of information for a controller of an automated data storage library, separate from the controller stored microcode, and that will be available for use by the controller after the controller microcode has been updated or restored. The read only input system comprises a bar code reader mounted on an accessor of the library and coupled to the controller for providing the output of the bar code reader to the controller, and a bar code label mounted in the automated data storage library, positioned at a predetermined fixed location. The bar code label encodes input control information for the controller, which is read by the bar code reader and supplied to the controller. The bar code label input control information may comprise an offset value for at least one of the X, Y and Z direction coordinates of the accessor in order to align the accessor. The bar code label input control information may also comprise engineering change information, and/or may comprise product option information.

A paper holding bin including a movable bottom tray for holding a stack of print receiving material such as paper. The bin is part of a machine using sheets of paper such as a copier or printer. The front edge of the paper stack is positioned at the front edge of the tray and against the front wall of the bin. A biasing spring is used to move the tray upwardly along the front wall of the bin until the top sheet of the stack bears against a paper feed roll. As sheets are fed from the stack, the spring continues to bias the tray upwardly so as to keep the top sheet of the stack against the feed roll. Cams of circular arc are provided at the rear edge of the tray, extending upwardly therefrom, to bear against the rear wall of the bin. In that manner a rolling pivot point is provided so that the front edge of the tray remains virtually equidistant from the front edge of the bin, regardless of whether the stack is large or small.

The invention concerns a sheet feed for rapidly and accurately placing a sheet onto a processing station. A carriage is movably mounted above this processing station and reciprocated for feeding. Two belts extend between the sheet feed frame and opposite ends of the movable carriage, leaving an opening in the carriage. When the carriage is reciprocated, the belts transport the sheet to register it, feed it through the carriage opening onto the processing station, hold it down on the processing station, and remove it from there.
