A system () for detecting an analyte of interest in a sample is disclosed that comprises a measurement chamber () for metering the sample and including a defined concentration of an activator () causing the generation of a product when interacting with the analyte of interest, a heating element () thermally coupled to the measurement chamber, a controller () adapted to control the heating element such that the measurement chamber is maintained at a defined temperature (T), a sensor () adapted to detect said product, a timer () adapted to time an interaction time between the sample and the activator; and a processor () responsive to the sensor and the timer. The processor is adapted to, upon addition of the sample to the measurement chamber, determine an amount of the analyte of interest in the sample from a sensor signal indicative of an amount of said product in the measurement chamber provided by the sensor prior to termination of said interaction; known interaction kinetics between the analyte of interest and the activator at the defined temperature and the defined concentration; and the interaction time at time of generation of the sensor signal. A method of detecting an analyte of interest in a sample using such a system is also disclosed.

Device, system and method for detecting an analyte in a body fluid sample containing a plurality of cells

Methods for detecting acute kidney injury in an individual comprise (a) contacting a body fluid sample from the individual with an assay device including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) antibody and a detectable label, to allow complexing of NGAL protein in the sample with NGAL antibody, and determining an amount of complex formed between NGAL protein from the sample and NGAL antibody in the assay device using the detectable label, wherein NGAL antibody in the device has binding capacity with more than two NGAL protein epitopes, and wherein the amount of the formed complex represents a level of acute kidney injury. Methods for determining an origin of NGAL protein in a sample from an individual include the step of determining relative amounts of monomeric, dimeric and heterodimeric forms of NGAL protein in the sample and allow improved diagnosis and therefore better targeted treatment.

Methods, devices and kits for detecting or monitoring acute kidney injury

Methods for determining the occurrence or level of a mammalian protein in a sample and methods for determining the capability of a compound to transform or to inhibit the transformation of a selected mammalian protein in pro-phospholipase B form to an enzyme active phospholipase B form employ a pro-phospholipase B (PLB-II) mammalian protein which comprises at least one SU2 subunit comprising SEQ ID NO: 3 and having a molecular weight within the range of 30-60 kDa. The protein is expressed in neutrophils and is characterized as a phospholipase B of a novel family (PLB-II). The present invention relates to the estimation of the amount of subtypes of specific cells, for example the number of certain subtypes of leukocytes, by measurements of unique proteins in extracts of blood and other biological material. The knowledge of the number or amount of specific subtypes of white cells is important in the clinical diagnosis and surveillance of subjects with inflammatory disease including infectious disease, cancer, allergy/asthma etc.

Diagnostic methods comprise measuring specifically the level of at least one iso-eosinophilic cationic protein (iso-ECP) in a sample from an individual to be diagnosed, and comparing the measured level of the iso-ECP with a predetermined level of the iso-ECP. The iso-ECP is cytotoxic and the cytotoxicity of the iso-ECP is not capable of neutralization by the monoclonal antibodies EG1 and EG2. Anti-iso-ECP antibody which may be used in the diagnostic methods specifically binds to a cytotoxic isoform of ECP having an epitope which is unique for the native form of the cytotoxic iso-ECP.
