A multi-antenna transceiver system is disclosed. The system comprises a group of transceiver chips, wherein each transceiver chip has a respective chip-associated (e.g., on-chip) frequency generator configured to provide a respective conversion frequency, and wherein each transceiver chip is configured to use the respective conversion frequency for on-chip frequency conversion of a transceiver signal. The system also comprises a controller adapted to cause configuration of the respective chip-associated frequency generator of at least one of the transceiver chips, wherein the configuration comprises dynamically setting the respective conversion frequency. In some embodiments, the controller comprises a single piece of circuitry separate from the transceiver chips. The single piece of circuitry is adapted to cause configuration of the respective chip-associated frequency generator of two or more of the transceiver chips.

Multi-antenna transceiver system for multi-band operation

A digital pre-processing chip is disclosed. The digital pre-processing chip comprises an analog interface for transmitting and receiving analog signals to and from a plurality of analog Radio Frequency (RF) chips, and a digital interface for transmitting and receiving digital signals to and from a baseband chip. The digital pre-processing chip further comprises a plurality of Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) for converting a plurality of analog signals received via the analog interface to a plurality of RX digital signals, and a plurality of Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) for converting a plurality of TX digital signals to a plurality of analog signals to be transmitted to the plurality of analog RF chips via the analog interface. The digital pre-processing chip further comprises pre-processing circuitry configured to pre-process the plurality of RX digital signals received from the plurality of ADCs to form a pre-processed digital signal to be transmitted to the baseband chip via the digital interface. The pre-processing circuitry is further configured to pre-process a digital signal received via the digital interface to form the plurality of TX digital signals to be transmitted to the plurality of DACs.

Digital pre-processing chip for mmWAVE transceiver architectures

A multi-antenna transceiver system including a group of transceiver chips, and a reference frequency generator configured to provide a reference frequency for each transceiver chip. Each transceiver chip has a respective chip-associated (e.g., on-chip) frequency generator configured to provide a respective conversion frequency based on the reference frequency, wherein each respective conversion frequency is higher than the reference frequency. Each transceiver chip is configured to use the respective conversion frequency for on-chip frequency conversion of a transceiver signal. The reference frequency may be provided directly to each transceiver chip of the group or may be provided directly to a first transceiver chip of the group and to a second transceiver chip of the group via the first transceiver chip. The multi-antenna transceiver system may also include baseband processing circuitry configured to process transceiver signals for the transceiver chips, wherein the baseband processing circuitry may be further configured to estimate a first respective phase shift of each respective chip-associated frequency generator, and compensate the transceiver signals based on the first respective phase shifts.

Frequency generation of a multi-antenna transceiver system

A MIMO transceiver has a plurality of analog processing subsystems that each includes at least one antenna, a duplexer, at least one power amplifier, at least one mixer, an interface connectable to a baseband processing subsystem, and the MIMO transceiver has one or more analog radio frequency processing chips. Each analog processing subsystem of the plurality of analog processing subsystems is on a single one of the analog radio frequency processing chips, and each analog radio frequency processing chip comprises a metallization on at least one side of the chip and wherein the metallization comprises integration of the at least one antenna.

Analog processing system for massive-MIMO

An analog processing subsystem is disclosed. Said subsystem comprising at least one antenna (), a duplexer (), at least one power amplifier (), at least one mixer () and an interface connectable to a baseband processing subsystem. The at least one mixer () is adapted to down-convert and inphase/quadrature&#x2014;IQ&#x2014;demodulate a received analog radio frequency signal, received by the at least one antenna (), to provide a received analog baseband signal and to IQ-modulate and up-convert a transmit analog baseband signal, to be transmitted by the at least one antenna (), to provide a transmit analog radio frequency signal. The analog processing subsystem is comprised on a single analog radio frequency processing chip () comprising a metallization on at least one side of the chip for integration of the at least one antenna ().

Signal modulation apparatus for applying a modulation signal to a carrier signal, the apparatus comprising: an amplitude modulator for modulating the amplitude of the carrier signal in accordance with a control signal; first mixing means for mixing together fractions of the carrier signal before and after action of the amplitude modulator to produce a first detection signal indicative of the amplitude modulation applied by the amplitude modulator; and detection means for comparing the control signal with a first detection signal to evaluate distortion in the first detection signal as compared with the control signal.

Reducing the distortion of applied modulation

An apparatus for amplifying a signal. The apparatus includes an amplifier powered by a power supply, a monitor that monitors an output signal of the amplifier and a controller operative to adjust the power supply if distortion is detected in the output signal of the amplifier by the monitor.

Signal amplification

Predistortion that will compensate for distortion introduced by a power amplifier circuit is determined by applying a time-varying reference signal to the power amplifier circuit, wherein at each moment the time-varying reference signal has a reference amplitude and a reference phase. A corresponding output signal supplied by the power amplifier circuit is measured, wherein at each moment the output signal has a measured amplitude and a measured phase. Amplitude predistortion is determined by comparing the reference amplitude with the measured amplitude, and phase predistortion is determined by comparing the reference phase with the measured phase. A relationship between the phase predistortion and the reference amplitude is determined such that, for any value of the reference amplitude, a corresponding value of the phase predistortion is identified.

Arbitrary waveform predistortion table generation

A radio frequency (RF) power amplifier, including an external control loop and a protection circuit, which functions to maintain a constant output power during variations in impedance on the RF load. In the external control loop a collector current from an output transistor is detected and then regulated with respect to a reference current. The regulated signal is utilised to generate a bias control signal which is input to the base electrode of both a driver transistor and the output transistor. The protection circuit detects a voltage envelope at the collector electrode of the output transistor and utilises this signal to form a bias reduction signal which is input to the base electrode of the driver transistor.

Circuit for power amplification

A method of controlling output power in a power amplifier having a driver stage and an output stage. The driver current is measured and the output stage biased in dependence upon the measured driver current.

Power amplifiers

The present invention provides a transceiver circuit that includes a transmission amplifier coupled with an antenna input/output node. The transmission amplifier is configured to amplify communications to be transmitted from the transceiver circuit. The transceiver circuit further includes a receiver and a field effect transistor. The receiver includes a receiver input coupled with the antenna input/output node. The field effect transistor is coupled between the receiver input and an electrical reference. The field effect transistor is configured to provide an open circuit when communications are received at the receiver input and to provide a closed circuit when communications are not being received at the receiver input.

Antenna switches including field effect transistors

RF polar modulation circuit has a self-compensated temperature stable envelope controller and self-compensated temperature stable power amplifier bias. The circuit has an adaptive current-to-voltage modulation interface with pre-distortion compensation capability. AM/PM distortion are compensated for envelope dependent power amplifier transistor biasing. Automatic compensation is provided for RF loads that are higher or lower than nominal loads. Single chip power amplifier and envelope modulator

Coupler-based amplifiers provide a measure of load mismatch based on the difference between the two output signal amplitudes from the amplifiers. This measure can be used to control variable matching networks (VMNs) or amplifier supply voltages to maintain constant distortion levels and high power transfer/efficiency and even to control output power. Load mismatch is measured by comparing the amplifier device output amplitudes and adjusting the circuit based on the comparison to counteract undesired behavior, such as increasing distortion levels.

Load mismatch adaptation in coupler-based amplifiers

A circuit for regulating the power provided to a load connected to an output of a power amplifier. The circuit includes an amplitude detector that outputs a voltage corresponding to the amplitude of the signal outputted by the power amplifier. This output voltage is a function of the impedance of the load. Thus, when the impedance of the load changes, the output voltage also changes. Given a constant current into the load, it is the load impedance that determines the power delivered to the load. Therefore, because the output voltage reflects changes in the impedance of the load, the output voltage can be used by a regulator circuit to maintain a constant output power, regardless of changes in the impedance of the load.

Power amplifier (PA) with improved power regulation

Multiple circuits connected to a common terminal are switched where the frequency bands to be conducted through the circuits are close. Each circuit has an independent signal path to the common terminal which contains a filter and a device. Each device has a first and a second state. Each circuit has a first filter characteristic that passes a first frequency band and substantially blocks the second frequency band. Each circuit has a second filter characteristic which substantially blocks the first and second frequency bands when the device is in the second state, wherein the second filter characteristic is a result of the device and a filter acting in combination. As a result, the frequency multiplexer can have multiple frequency bands in a narrow frequency range connected to a common terminal with minimum signal loss.
