A cylinder has a piston part, a cylinder part, and a pipe section connected to the piston or cylinder parts. A portion of the pipe section encloses a pressure compartment which receives a fluid to apply a pressure on a pressure surface so the piston part is displaced in a first stroke direction. A first return pressure compartment receives a fluid to apply a pressure on a first return pressure surface so that the piston part is displaced in a second return stroke direction. The first return pressure compartment is positioned on the outside of the pipe section, and the area of the first return pressure surface is substantially equal to the area of the return pressure surface so that a volume-neutral operation of the cylinder is provided. Also described is a hydraulic system, an excavator comprising the cylinder and a procedure for operation of the cylinder.

An apparatus for maintaining constant circulation of drilling fluid includes a valve section () at the top of each section of drill pipes to be connected to or removed from the drill string. The valve section () has a top inlet for axial circulation and a side inlet () for radial circulation. Two separate valves () within the valve section controls flow through the inlets. An external valve control device () has a circulation adapter () for connecting drill fluid at operational pressure to the side inlet () and separate activating adapters () connecting to the couplings for opening or closing the valves ().

An adjustable centering tool for use in pipes of varying inner diameter. The centering tool being provided with a number of identical and steplessly adjustable, radially protruding wings having guiding lugs and chamfered end faces. The wings, having been set, are retained by an upper lock mandrel with a safety pin and a lower lock mandrel with a safety nut. The outer circumference of a cylindrical tool body is fitted with longitudinal grooves having sloped terminations cooperating with the wing dimensions, the chamfered end faces of the wings, and the guiding lugs.

Adjustable winged centering tool for use in pipes with varying diameter

A torque converter for use in drilling with a rotating drill bit, the purpose of the torque converter being to absorb impacts and bring about an axial movement of the drill bit when the torque exceeds a predetermined value. For this purpose the torque converter is composed of two cylindrical string parts connected through the bearing elements. The string parts are connected to each other through helical elements in such a way that relative rotation of the two cylindrical string parts brings about axial movement, which unloads the drill bit.

A dynamic damper for installation in a drill string (), the purpose of which damper is to reduce the risk of jamming the drill bit (), thereby avoiding damages in the event of unwanted extreme oscillations and rotational speed of the drill string caused by uncontrolled release of torsional energy in the drill string when the drill string suddenly breaks free of the jam. For this purpose, the damper is constructed from an outer and an inner string section () and (), supported concentrically and interconnected through a helical threaded connection (), so that relative rotation between the sections caused by torque () will give an axial movement that lifts and loosens the drill bit from the bottom of the hole in critical jamming situations. The spring () maintains the outer string section in an axial position against the shoulder (). A hydraulic damping effect on the axial movements is achieved by oil volumes () and () being interconnected through narrow bores (). Logging of the damping function is carried out by sensor (), which registers and stores data to be read when the damper is retrieved to the surface.

Dynamic damper for use in a drill string

In spinner tongs, a so-called spinner (), incorporated in an iron roughneck and thus serving to rotate a drill pipe during connection thereof to a drill string or during division of the drill string into individual pipes, the aim has been to reduce damage on the threaded connections (the pin-and-box joints) in the screwing/unscrewing operations. This is realised in an operation for the simultaneous centering and rotating of the drill pipe. Four spinner rollers () known in themselves, which are brought to bear on the drill pipe when surrounding it, are mounted according to the invention, preferably in pairs, at the outer ends of driven clamping arms (), by bogies (). At their opposite outer ends the clamping arms () are pivotally supported on a fixed frame part/structure () and are jointed to each other by means of a piston and cylinder () driven by pressure fluid and arranged to carry the clamping arms () towards and away from each other. For their forced centering the clamping arms () have a centering stay () arranged thereto, which is connected by its outer end to one clamping arm (), and is connected by its other outer end to the other clamping arm (). For the parallel displacement of the rollers (), each bogie () has a parallel stay () arranged thereto, whose other end is supported on a fixed frame part/structure ().

A method and device for forming a sliding seal between a reciprocating piston () and the wall of a cylinder (), wherein one side of the piston faces a first liquid in a pump chamber () of the cylinder (), a first piston seal () and a second piston seal (), spaced from the first piston seal (), sealing between the piston and the cylinder (); and wherein a second liquid is supplied under pressure between the seals (), the pressure of the second liquid between the seals () being maintained at a level essentially equal to or slightly lower than the pressure of the pump chamber ().

Method and device at a hydrodynamic pump piston

A sleeve valve for fluid flow between a hydrocarbon reservoir and a well includes a first sleeve and a second sleeve which are relatively movable between a first position in which at least one opening in the first sleeve is aligned or misaligned with at least one opening in the second sleeve in order to admit or shut off the fluid flow. The first sleeve is provided with a radially movable sealing element that has a sealing surface adapted to rest against the second sleeve around the second sleeve opening, and at least one tension element presses the sealing element with its sealing surface against the second sleeve. A method for the assembly of such a sleeve valve includes a sealing element and a tension element placed in the outer sleeve opening and a clamping tool is adapted to the opening in the sealing element and moved outwards together with the sealing element until the sealing element is flush with the inner surface of the outer sleeve. Thereafter, the inner sleeve is inserted into the outer sleeve and the sealing element is allowed to rest against the inner sleeve and the clamping tool is removed.
