A method and device for manufacturing a cutting insert green body, the method includes the step of providing a compression tool having an upper and lower die, and an upper and lower punch. The upper die defines a punch tunnel in which the upper punch slides, and the lower die defines a punch tunnel in which the lower punch slides. The dies define a die cavity to accommodate a powder to be compressed by action of the respective punches to form the green body. Powder in the die cavity is compressed by forwarding the upper punch through the punch tunnel of the upper die and a predetermined distance L through the opening of the lower die. The upper die is displaced relative to the opening of the lower die and the upper punch is removed from the lower die to move the green body out of the lower die through the opening thereof.

Method and device for manufacturing a cutting insert green body

A method of making a cutting insert using powder metallurgical methods including using a press with a main pressing direction and a press tool setup with a die, a male core rod, a female core rod, a bottom punch, a top punch and a feed shoe. The insert has a noncylindrical hole perpendicular to the main pressing direction, herein referred to as a cross-hole. A cross-hole with increased dimensional accuracy is obtained if the powder also is compacted by the two core rods.

Method of making a cutting insert with a hole for clamping

A coated turning insert particularly useful for turning in stainless steel is disclosed. The insert is characterized by a WC&#x2014;Co-based cemented carbide substrate having a highly W-alloyed Co-binder phase and a coating including an inner layer of TiCNOwith columnar grains followed by a layer of fine-grained, &#x3ba;-AlOand a top layer of TiN. The present invention relates to a coated cemented carbide cutting tool particularly for turning applications with high toughness demands, of stainless steels of different compositions and microstructures, and of low and medium alloyed non-stainless steels. The cemented carbide is WC-Co based with a composition of 9-12 wt % Co, 0.2-2.0 wt % cubic carbides from elements from group IVa, Va or VIa of the periodic table and balance WC with a grain size of 1.5-2 &#x3bc;m. The binder phase is W-alloyed with a CW-ratio in the range of 0.77-0.95. The coating includes a multilayered structure of the composition (TiAl,)N in which x varies repeatedly between the two ranges 0.45&#x3c;x&#x3c;0.55 and 0.70&#x3c;x&#x3c;0.80, adding up to a total thickness of 2-9 &#x3bc;m.

The present invention relates to method of making a cemented carbide insert, comprising a cemented carbide substrate and a coating. The substrate contains WC and cubic carbonitride phase in a binder phase based of Co and/or Ni and has a binder phase enriched surface zone essentially free of cubic phase. The binder phase enriched surface zone prevails over the edge. By sintering in an atmosphere essentially consisting of nitrogen the thickness of the binder phase enriched zone can be controlled.
