There is provided a method for providing edge node () fault management and bandwidth, (BW), control for transmission of a data stream in a packet-based network. The method comprises adaptively transmitting a data stream (DS) by controlling an outgoing data stream being transmitted to one or more client devices () by analyzing at least one data stream characteristics of a corresponding received data stream (DS, DS, DS) of the one or more receiving client devices (), and providing a transmission strategy for the outgoing data stream based on said analyzed data stream characteristics. Thereby accurate adjustment of consumed (BW) and an associated recovery scheme, i.e. FEC and/or retransmission, to maintain highest achievable performance when it comes to video quality and also affect on other services, are provided.

Edge node control

A method in a packet-based network like the Internet is provided, which is directed towards packet loss recovery for transmission of a data stream, DSin a packet-based network. The method comprises transmitting data packets associated with the data stream, and upon receiving a retransmission request of missing data, retransmitting the missing data applying a selective retransmission of missing data, which may be based on a priority ranking of data types to be retransmitted, performing retransmission if it is determined that missing data will be received in time for display, or performing retransmission with a rate control.

Retransmission of data in packet networks

Systems and methods for video distribution synchronization are described herein. An example method to distribute a media stream over a distribution network to a number of devices may include determining, by one or more computer processors coupled to memory, a common master-client shared time reference T. Example methods may include determining a mean intermediate arrival time for first packets of a first type of the media stream, determining respective first playout times for the first packets based on the mean intermediate arrival time and the time reference T, associating the first packets with the respective first playout times, and distributing the media stream to the plurality of devices.

Video distribution synchronization

There is provided a method in a distribution network (), comprising a central master nodefor distributing a received media stream DO comprising packets of a first type over the distribution network to a multiple of client devices. The method comprising providing a common master-client shared time reference T, and determining a mean intermediate arrival time for received packets of the first type, which is utilized for providing playout time information for the packets together with the time reference T.

There is provided a mechanism for providing Adaptive Bit Rate adjustments of media streams like video for live Over the Top distribution without the need to monitor buffer fill levels, which is advantageous for live video distribution over IP networks. An embodiment of the invention is based on monitoring change in the received bitrate level at a client device, and providing a predicted future bandwidth characteristics of the network based on the change. By monitoring the received bitrate and its rate of change over time, a prediction of (near future) available bandwidth in the network is advantageously provided. A drastic drop of the received bitrate may for instance indicate that the available bandwidth will become too low to sustain a currently received media stream, and the system can accordingly initiate a decision to request a lower video quality.

ABR adjustment for live OTT

The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for allocating time slots to circuit-switched channels established to comprise one or more respective time slots in a recurrent frame of a time division multiplexed network. According to the invention, a time slot allocated to said channel is associated with a selected level, of at least two available levels of priority. Decisions as to whether or not to deallocate said time slot from said channel is then based upon a comparison of said selected level of priority and a level of priority associated with a request for a time slot for another channel.

Methods and apparatuses for allocating time slots to circuit switched channels

The present invention relates to methods for changing the bandwidth of a circuit switched channel in a time division multiplexed network, wherein said channel comprises a set of time slots within each recurring frame of a bitstream between a first node and a second node. According to the invention one or more additional time slots within each recurring frame of said bitstream are reserved, including using, during a period of time, only said set of time slots for transmitting payload data pertaining to said channel while providing, during said period of time, information indicating that said one or more additional time slots are currently not used for transferring payload data. After said period of time, said set of time slots is used as well as said one or more additional time slots on said bitstream for transmitting payload data pertaining to said channel.

Methods for changing the bandwidth of a circuit switched channel

The present invention refers to an apparatus providing routing of asynchronous traffic in a circuit switched synchronous time division multiplexed network, said apparatus comprising an interface () providing access to a multi-channel bitstream carrying isochronous channels; routing means () for providing routing of data packets; and a communication medium () interconnecting said interface and said routing means. According to the invention, said interface () comprises means () for deriving data packets received in at least one of said isochronous channels, means () for transmitting only header portions of said data packets to said routing means via said communication medium (), means () for temporarily storing at least body portions of said data packets, and means () for forwarding said data packets in accordance with routing instructions received from said routing means.

Apparatus for routing asynchronous traffic in a circuit switched network

The present invention refers to methods and apparatuses for providing synchronization in a time division multiplexed network, wherein data is transferred on multi-access bitstreams in circuit-switched channels that are defined by respective time slots of regularly recurrent frames of said bitstreams, said frames being defined by regularly recurrent frame synchronization signals transferred on said bitstreams. According to the invention an auxiliary regularly recurrent frame synchronization signal is generated and selected as a basis for defining said frames on a bitstream if the frame synchronization signal that is used as a basis for synchronizing said frames during normal operation is not detected in accordance with an expected frame rate.

Methods and apparatuses for providing synchronization in a communication network

The present invention relates to a method, a system and apparatuses for transferring data on a bitstream in a circuit switched time division multiplexed network, wherein said bitstream is divided into frames, each frame is divided into time slots, and said time slots are divided into control slots and data slots, and wherein an isochronous channel, comprising one or more data slots within each cycle of said bitstream, has been established between a first node and a second node of said network. According to the invention, said bitstream is provided with data distinguishing each data slot, within said channel, that contains non-valid data as a result of said first node not being able to transmit valid data into said each data slot.

Method, system and apparatus for transferring information between nodes in a circuit switched time division multiplexed method

A technique is provided for allocating access to time slots used for transferring data between nodes in a time multiplexed network, whose bandwidth is divided into cycles. The cycles are in turn divided into control slots for control signaling and data slots for transferring data. The slots allocated to a primary home node may be temporarily allocated to a temporary home node, in which case the temporary home node, instead of the primary home node, then temporarily has the write access to the slots. The slots may subsequently be reallocated to the primary home node. In particular, the degree of temporary allocation of slots to a first node is evaluated. Then, the number of slots having the first node as a primary home node may be increased based upon the evaluation. This decreases the need for temporary allocation of slots within the network.
