A blood treatment apparatus is disclosed. The example apparatus includes a blood treatment unit including a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet and a blood line. The apparatus also includes a fluid line including an upstream fluid line configured to receive electrically conductive treatment fluid from a fluid source and pass the electrically conductive treatment fluid to the fluid inlet of the blood treatment unit and a downstream fluid line connected to the fluid outlet of the blood treatment unit for delivering the used electrically conductive treatment fluid to a fluid sink. The apparatus further includes a flow divider arranged in the downstream fluid line and configured to separate the used electrically conductive treatment fluid in the downstream fluid line into to a first fluid section and a second fluid section, thereby electrically isolating the first and second fluid sections.

Blood treatment apparatus including flow divider for limiting an electrical current

A blood treatment apparatus is disclosed. In an example, the blood treatment apparatus includes a blood treatment unit; a blood line configured to extract blood from a blood source, pass the blood through the blood treatment unit and deliver treated blood to a target vessel; and a fluid line configured to pass treatment fluid through the blood treatment unit and deliver used treatment fluid to a fluid sink. A flow divider is arranged in the fluid line for separating treatment fluid into to a first fluid section and a second fluid section, thereby electrically isolating the fluid sections such that electrical current flowing in the fluid line between the fluid sections is limited. A monitoring device operates on a pressure signal from a blood processing apparatus which has an extracorporeal blood circuit for pumping blood through a dialyzer, and a treatment fluid supply system for pumping a treatment fluid through the dialyzer. The monitoring device has a first input block for obtaining a first pressure signal, and a second input block for obtaining a second pressure signal. An emulation block generates, as a function of the second pressure signal, an emulated first pressure signal which emulates a concurrent signal response of the first pressure sensor, and a filtering block generates a filtered signal as a function of the first pressure signal and the emulated first pressure signal, so as to suppress, in the filtered signal compared to the first pressure signal, signal interferences originating from the treatment fluid supply system. A pulse detection block processes the filtered signal for detection of subject pulses.

A monitoring device () operates on a pressure signal from a blood processing apparatus, e.g. a dialysis machine, which has an extracorporeal blood circuit connected to a vascular system of a subject for pumping blood through a dialyzer, and a treatment fluid supply system for pumping a treatment fluid through the dialyzer. The monitoring device () has a first input block () for obtaining a first pressure signal (y) from a first pressure sensor () in the extracorporeal blood circuit, and a second input block () for obtaining a second pressure signal (w) from a second pressure sensor () in the treatment fluid supply system. An emulation block () generates, as a function of the second pressure signal (w), an emulated first pressure signal (y) which emulates a concurrent signal response of the first pressure sensor (), and a filtering block () generates a filtered signal (y) as a function of the first pressure signal (y) and the emulated first pressure signal (y), so as to suppress, in the filtered signal (}y) compared to the first pressure signal (y), signal interferences originating from the treatment fluid supply system (). A pulse detection block () processes the filtered signal (y) for detection of subject pulses originating from the subject.

A monitoring device () operates an input block () to acquire a pressure signal from a pressure sensor (-) in an apparatus for extracorporeal blood processing connected to the vascular system of the subject. A processing block () repeatedly processes the pressure signal for generation of a time-sequence of parameter values indicative of pressure pulsations originating from heartbeats in the subject, and an evaluation block () evaluates the parameter values for detection of cardiac arrest and, if cardiac arrest is detected, generates a dedicated alarm signal. To reduce the risk for false positives without increasing the risk for false negatives, the monitoring device () may acquire and process more than one pressure signal, and/or perform an initial viability check before the monitoring is initiated to ensure that pressure pulsations originating from heartbeats are detectable in the pressure signal(s), and/or separate the monitoring of the pressure signal(s) into a detection phase performed during regular operation of a blood pump in the apparatus, and a verification phase performed during a temporary shutdown of the blood pump.

Method to treat blood by controlling blood pumps with fluid pumps

A proposed blood treatment apparatus includes: a blood treatment unit, a pair of fluid pumps and a pair blood pumps. The blood treatment unit is configured to receive untreated blood and fresh blood treatment fluid, and emit treated blood and used blood treatment fluid. The fluid pumps are configured to pass blood treatment fluid through the blood treatment unit. The blood pumps are configured to extract untreated blood from a blood source, pass extracted blood through the blood treatment unit and deliver treated blood to a target vessel. Additionally, the fluid pumps are configured to control the operation of the blood pumps via the blood treatment fluid. Moreover, a flow control device is configured to control a trans-membrane flow between the blood side and the a fluid side of the blood treatment unit. Hence, for instance ultrafiltration can be adjusted to a desired level in a very straightforward manner.

A control unit and a measuring device are configured to emit a feedback signal indicative of the amount of working fluid received into, or discharged from at least one of the second accumulation containers whereby the pumped mass or volume of working fluid is determined by the control unit at an arbitrary position of the flexible member.

A blood treatment apparatus includes: a blood treatment unit, a pair of fluid pumps and a pair of blood pumps. The blood treatment unit is configured to receive untreated blood and fresh blood treatment fluid, and emit treated blood and used blood treatment fluid. The fluid pumps are configured to pass blood treatment fluid through the blood treatment unit. The at least one blood flow parameter is determined based on a difference between (i) a first amount of fresh blood treatment fluid received into the blood treatment unit, and (ii) a second amount of used blood treatment fluid emitted from the blood treatment unit during another well-defined period.

A circuit for extracorporeal blood treatment in which a flow-inverting device is interposed between a blood treatment unit and a blood pump placed on an artery branch connected with a vascular access of a patient. The flow-inverting device allows the blood flow within the filtering unit to be kept unchanged even following an inverted circulation in the patient-side artery and vein branches controlled by the blood pump.
