A guide pad for a cutting tool includes a sliding surface, which is convexly curved in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the guide pad. A channel-shaped recess is formed in the sliding surface that extends in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the guide pad and terminates before reaching an end of the sliding surface at an end of the guide pad.

Guide pad and cutter head for a cutting tool

A guide pad for a cutting tool is formed with at least one sliding surface, which is convexly curved in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the guide pad. Each sliding surface includes two convexly curved sliding sub-surfaces separated by a fluid conveying formation having a longitudinal extension in a direction in parallel to the longitudinal axis. The fluid conveying formation is planar or has a convexly curved shape in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis having a larger radius of curvature than the radius of the sliding surface.

Guide pad and a cutter head for a cutting tool

A hole-making tool includes a body having a seat, which is delimited by a tangential support surface, an axial support surface, and a radial support surface. A cutting insert is fixed in the seat. A pair of female- and male-like securing means is arranged in the interface between the tangential support surface of the seat and the underside of the cutting insert. The female-like securing means includes a guide surface. The male-like securing means is spaced from the guide surface to form a gap between the securing means when the cutting insert is pressed against the axial and radial support surfaces. If the feeding direction of the tool is reversed, the cutting insert may become detached from the seat and the securing means is activated to direct the cutting insert inward toward the radial support surface to prevent the peripheral portion of the cutting insert from scratching the generated hole.

Hole-making tool

Reaming tool includes a head and one or more detachable cutting inserts fixed in seats. The seat includes radial, tangential and axial support surfaces, while the cutting insert has a mirror-symmetrical polyhedron shape comprising six limiting surfaces, viz. two chip surfaces and four clearance surfaces, a number of alternately usable identical cutting edges formed in the transitions between the chip and clearance surfaces. The cutting insert has a rhombic cross-sectional shape with four clearance surfaces, which meet each other in pairs at obtuse angles in two opposite corners, and which, along each individual chip surface, form two cutting edges alternately usable by indexing the cutting insert. The seat additionally includes a slope surface forming an obtuse angle with the radial support surface, suitably of the same magnitude as the obtuse angle between the clearance surfaces of the cutting insert. Tool head and reaming insert for the tool are disclosed.

Reaming tool as well as a head and a cutting insert therefor

Reaming tool includes a head and a detachable cutting insert fixed in a seat. The seat includes radial, tangential, and axial support surfaces, while the cutting insert has a mirror-symmetrical polyhedron shape comprising six limiting surfaces, viz. two chip surfaces and at least two clearance surfaces, a number of alternately usable, identical cutting edges formed in transitions between the chip and clearance surfaces. A female- or male-like securing means co-operates with a complementary, male- or female-like securing means in the seat, more precisely in an inactive, contactless state as long as the cutting insert is held pressed by the cutting forces against the axial support surface. The securing means is activatable when the cutting insert is unintentionally distanced from the axial support surface against the action of a clamping member. Tool head and reaming insert for the tool are disclosed.

A cutting tool for parting and grooving operations of the kind including a coupling part, which is intended for mounting the cutting tool in a machine tool, and a tool head detachably connected to the coupling part. The tool head includes a basic holder part and, joined to the basic holder part, a blade part, in front portion of which an insert pocket is formed, in which a cutting insert is fastenable. The cutting tool also includes means for supplying cooling agent to the cutting insert. The cooling agent supplying means includes a tube member, which is mounted in a recess, which is transverse to the longitudinal direction of the blade part and arranged in the tool head. The tube member has an inlet for connection to a cooling agent source and an outlet for leading the cooling agent in a direction towards the cutting insert.

Cutting tool and associated tool head

A tool head, which is adapted to receive a cutting insert for chip removal machining, includes a basic holder which has a lower support part and an upper clamping portion defining therebetween and insert-receiving pocket. A slot extends through the basic holder at a location spaced from the pocket, wherein the clamping portion is joined to a remaining portion of the basic holder by a hinge portion about which the clamping portion is elastically displaceable toward the cutting insert. A recess extends through the basic holder parallel to the slot and in communication therewith for receiving a nut roll. A clamping screw extends through a bore of the basic holder and into engagement with the nut roll, wherein the clamping screw is operable to displace the nut roll into the slot to expand the slot and thereby elastically displace the clamping portion about the hinge and toward the cutting insert.

Tool head for a machining tool

A tool head, which is adapted to receive a cutting insert for chip removal machining, includes a basic holder which has a lower support part and an upper clamping portion defining therebetween an insert-receiving pocket. A slot extends through the basic holder at a location spaced from the pocket, wherein the clamping portion is joined to a remaining portion of the basic holder by a hinge portion about which the clamping portion is elastically displaceable toward the cutting insert. A recess extends through the basic holder parallel to the slot and in communication therewith, the recess receiving a nut roll. A clamping screw extends through the slot and into threaded engagement with the nut roll, wherein the clamping screw includes a conical head arranged to enter the slot for expanding the slot and elastically displacing the clamping portion about the hinge and toward the cutting insert.

Cutting tool head for a metalworking tool

A tool such as a milling or drilling tool includes a shaft having a front recess in which a cutting head is disposed. A drawbar disposed in the shaft includes a plurality of flexible tongues disposed in the recess. The tongues form a recess in which a rear knob of the cutting head is received. A retainer urges the drawbar axially rearwardly to retain the cutting head in the recess. The shaft includes axial projections at its front end which are received in respective rearwardly open recesses of the cutting head to prevent relative rotation between the shaft and the cutting head.

A tool holder simultaneously carries at least two diametrically arranged tool heads, each tool head carrying cutting inserts for chip removing machining. The tool holder includes an adaptor connected to a coupling. The adaptor has at least two diametrically opposite side surfaces which-diverge away from the coupling. The side surfaces have seats in order to replaceably receive respective tool heads. A line which lies in both a first basal plane and in one of the side surfaces forms an angle in the interval 1&#xb0;&#x2013;15&#xb0; with a longitudinal center line of the tool holder.

Tool holder for carrying multiple tool heads simultaneously

A tool for chip removing machining includes an insert holder and a cutting insert attached thereto. The holder includes a longitudinal center axis and terminates in a support surface at a front end of the holder. The support surface defines a seat to which the insert is removably attached. The support surface forms a 45-degree angle with the center axis. The cutting insert includes a contact surface for mounting the insert to the seat, and a plurality of fingers projecting generally radially with respect to the center axis. Each finger includes a cutting edge and an associated chip surface.

Tool for chip removing machining

A holder is designed to receive a cutting insert intended for parting and grooving operations. The insert is clampable in a seat formed between a blade tongue and a clamping finger which respectively extend from lower and upper front parts of the holder. A gap separates those front parts in order to enable those parts to be forced towards each other by means of a clamping mechanism mounted in the holder. The clamping mechanism comprises a drawbar, a first end portion of which is movable within a bore formed in one of the front parts, and a second end portion of which is fixed in the other front part. The first end portion of the drawbar includes a head having a frusto-conical abutment surface. A tightening screw is threadedly mounted in the same front part as the head and is arranged to contact the abutment surface to displace the drawbar in a direction forcing the clamping finger and the tongue together to clamp the cutting insert in place.

Insert holder for parting and grooving operations

A tool holder for holding a cutting insert includes a head on which an insert-support surface is disposed. A plate is mounted on the head by a serrated connection, the head including fingers that form side surfaces disposed on opposing sides of the support surface. Each of the side surfaces includes a recess, wherein each side surface defines spaced apart contact areas. A slot extends through one of the fingers in spaced relationship to the side surface formed by that finger to render that side surface flexible. A passage interconnects an intermediate portion of that flexible side surface and an intermediate portion of the slot.

A double ended metal-cutting insert includes a pair of circular cutting edges disposed at respective end surfaces of the insert. Each end surface includes an upper portion connected to the cutting edge, and a lower portion connected to the upper portion by a concave transition portion. The lower portion is recessed relative to the upper portion in a direction toward the opposite cutting edge. The lower portion is a flat face oriented perpendicular to the bottom surface.

Cutting insert for grooving operations

A parting tool includes a thin holder forming a groove open at one end, and a double-ended cutting insert mounted in the groove. The insert includes front and rear cutting edges and a rear end surface abutting against a rear support surface of the groove. The rear support surface is configured to enable differently shaped double-ended inserts to be mounted therein without the occurrence of contact between the rear cutting edge and a surface of the holder.
