A system and method for specifying the quality of service in a transmission of data packets between a service entity and a user equipment is provided. A plurality of service classes relating to the quality of service are preconfigured and a selected service class is selected. A first transmission context, associated with a first set of attributes, is established between a core network node and the user equipment. A second transmission context, associated with a second set of attributes, is established between an access node and the user equipment. The selected service class is specified by a third set of attributes, which is forwarded to the core network node and the access node. The third set of attributes is used to determine the first set of attributes and/or the second set of attributes.

Method and devices for specifying the quality of service in a transmission of data packets

Methods and an arrangement for synchronizing communication of framed data via asynchronous base stations (BSBS) in a cellular communication system are presented. The synchronization methods are performed continuously by sending out certain system frame counter states from a central node in the system to all its connected base stations (BSBS). Each base station (BSBS) includes a local frame counter (LFC, LFC), which generates local frame counter states (t()-t(), t()-t()) correlated to the system frame counter states. Transmission of information via the base stations (BSBS) is synchronized by assigning each data frame (DR()-DR()) a particular frame number, which is given by the local frame counter states (t()-t(), t()-t()), so that data framed (DF()-DF ()) having identical numbers contain copies of a certain data packet. Correct frame numbers are derived from common downlink channel offset measurements (CCOCCO) carried out in the base stations (BSBS), and timing advances values (TA) and downlink channel offsets (DCODCO) calculated in the central node.

Methods and arrangements in a radio communications system

A user equipment (UE) communicates with at least one cell defining an active set. A velocity vector including position, speed, and direction is associated with the UE. A radio network controller receives information related to the velocity vector and creates a filtered neighbor cell list by filtering a neighbor cell list associated with the active set. The filtering depends on the velocity vector related information. The controller transmits the filtered neighbor cell list to the user equipment so that pilot signal strength is measured for cells in that list.

Method and apparatus for generating a neighbor cell list

A radio access network portion of a telecommunications network ( ) which serves a mobile station (MS) is connecting to a core network. The radio access network portion has plural base stations (BS) serving respective plural cells (C), as well as plural control nodes (RNCs). The control nodes include a first control node (RNC ) for controlling a first group of the plural base stations and a second control node (RNC ) for controlling a second group of the plural base stations. A multicell area (MCA) includes cells served by at least some of the first group of base stations and cells served by at least some of the second group of base stations. The radio access network portion of a telecommunications network further has a paging control node which stores information regarding the multicell area. To page the mobile station in the multicell area, the paging control node ( ) sends paging messages to each of the base stations serving the multicell area controlled by the paging control node: and ( ) sends a paging message to any other control nodes which control base stations serving cells in the multicell area. The paging control node determines to which base stations and other control node(s) it should send paging messages by consulting a paging table ( ). Preferably the paging control node is one of the control nodes of the radio access network. The paging control node is connected to the other control node(s) by an inter-control node link ( ) over which the paging message is sent.

Multicell area paging for cellular telecommunications system

A radio access network portion of a telecommunications network (,) which serves a mobile station (MS) is connecting to a core network. The radio access network portion has plural base stations (BS) serving respective plural cells (C), as well as plural control nodes (RNCs). The control nodes include a first control node (RNC,) for controlling a first group of the plural base stations and a second control node (RNC,) for controlling a second group of the plural base stations. A multicell area (MCA) includes cells served by at least some of the first group of base stations and cells served by at least some of the second group of base stations. To page the mobile station in the multicell area, the paging control node (1) sends paging messages to each of the base stations serving the multicell area controlled by the paging control node; and (2) sends a paging message to any other control nodes which control base stations serving cells in the multicell area. The paging control node determines to which base stations and other control node(s) it should send paging messages by consulting a paging table (,). Preferably the paging control node is one of the control nodes of the radio access network. The paging control node is connected to the other control node(s) by an inter-control node link (,) over which the paging message is sent.

When a mobile terminal in a mobile radio network has a user data connection established to a core network node, and receives a page message on a paging channel from a second core network node to which the terminal has no data connection established, the mobile terminal can send a page response message to the second core network node on the existing signaling channel between the mobile terminal and the radio access network associated with the established data connection to that core network node. The page response then triggers a multiplexing between the mobile terminal and radio access network, of the established connection with the first core network node and the desired call connection (precipitated by the page request) from the second core network node. This way, the mobile station can receive simultaneous calls from two different core network nodes over a common traffic and signaling connection.
