A centrifugal separator and a method of operating the separator are disclosed. The separator includes a centrifuge rotor having a rotor wall enclosing an inner space containing a stack of separation disks. The rotor includes an inlet for a product, a first outlet for a light phase of the product, and a second outlet for a heavy phase of the product. The second outlet includes a plurality of outlet channels extending along an inner side of the rotor wall from an outer region towards an inner region of the inner space. Each outlet channel transports a flow of the heavy phase from the outer region. The separator includes a plurality of temperature sensors provided at a respective outlet channel. Each sensor senses a temperature in the proximity of the respective outlet channel and provides a signal representing the sensed temperature.

A separation system for separating a liquid mixture includes a centrifugal separator. The centrifugal separator includes a stationary frame, a rotatable assembly and a drive unit for rotating the rotatable assembly relative the frame around an axis of rotation. The separator further includes a feed inlet for receiving a liquid mixture to be separated, a first liquid outlet for discharge of a separated liquid light phase and a second liquid outlet for discharge of a liquid heavy phase having a density that is higher than said liquid light phase. The rotatable assembly includes a rotor casing enclosing a separation space in which a stack of separation discs is arranged to rotate around a vertical axis of rotation. The separation space is arranged for receiving liquid mixture from said feed inlet. The separation system further includes a container arranged downstream of said first and/or second liquid outlet for receiving discharged liquid phase, and a scale for measuring the weight of discharged liquid phase contained in said container.

A method for determining if air is trapped within a centrifugal separator, the separator including a stationary frame, a rotatable assembly, a drive unit for rotating the rotatable assembly relative the frame around an axis of rotation, a feed inlet for supply of a liquid mixture to be separated, a first liquid outlet for discharge of a separated liquid phase and a second liquid outlet for discharge of a heavy phase having a density that is higher than said liquid phase. The rotatable assembly includes a rotor casing enclosing a separation space in which a stack of separation discs is arranged to rotate around a vertical axis of rotation. The method includes closing one of the first and second liquid outlets and restricting the flow from the other outlet; supplying feed to the feed inlet and measuring the flow to the feed inlet and the flow from the restricted outlet; comparing the flow as a function of time between feed inlet and the restricted outlet; and determining that air is trapped within the centrifugal separator if the measured flow as a function of time flow deviates between feed inlet and the restricted outlet.

A centrifugal separator includes a rotor, and a control system. The control system includes a first and a second pressure sensor arranged at first and second radial positions in a separation space of the rotor. The first and second pressure sensors are positioned to be submerged in process liquid during operation of the centrifugal separator. A control unit of the control system is configured to determine a parameter of the process liquid within the separation space during operation of the centrifugal separator based on measurements from the first and second pressure sensors.

A centrifugal separator includes a rotor arrangement and a drive arrangement. The centrifugal separator includes a generator for generating an electric current. The generator is configured for continuously generating a current during a full revolution of the rotor arrangement. A centrifugal separator includes a rotor arrangement and a drive arrangement. A user of electric energy is arranged in the rotor arrangement. The centrifugal separator includes a rotary transformer, the rotary transformer including a transformer stator and a transformer rotor. The transformer stator and the transformer rotor are arranged adjacent to each other with an airgap therebetween. The transformer rotor includes a secondary coil and is rotatable together with the rotor arrangement. The secondary coil is electrically connected to the user of electric energy arranged in the rotor arrangement for providing the user of electric energy with an electric current. The user of electric energy may be an actuator, and/or a sensor, and/or a control unit.

Centrifugal separator having a rotary transformer and a user of electric energy

The present invention provides method for separating contaminants from a liquid mixture comprising the steps of a) providing a feed of said liquid mixture to be purified, b) adding a separation aid to the liquid mixture to be purified, wherein said separation aid is capable of binding said contaminants and c) supplying a flow of compressed air into said feed after step b) has been performed to provide a feed comprising air. The method further comprises steps d) removing air from said feed comprising air to provide a deaerated feed; and e) supplying said deaerated feed to a separator, and f) separating a phase comprising contaminants and said separation aid from said liquid mixture in said separator, wherein the separation aid added in step b) is insoluble in said liquid mixture at the separation conditions in step f). The present invention further provides a system for separating contaminants from a liquid mixture.
