The present invention relates to the use of a product obtainable by the reaction of a fatty acid, or mixture of acids, having the formula RCOOH (I); and a dicarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof having the formula (IIa) or (IIb) with an alkoxylated fatty amine having the formula (III) or a partial or wholly quaternized derivative thereof; optionally said reaction between the fatty acid, the dicarboxylic acid and the alkoxylated fatty amine is being followed by a further reaction step wherein part or all of the nitrogen atoms are quaternized by reaction with an alkylating agent RX; as a corrosion inhibitor for metal surfaces. The present invention also relates to such products and to methods for their production. 

Polyester polyamine and polyester polyquaternary ammonium corrosion inhibitors

The present invention relates to the use of a polyesteramine or a polyester polyquaternary ammonium compound as a corrosion inhibitor for metal surfaces, and to a method for protecting a metal surface from corrosion by contacting the metal surface with said corrosion inhibitor.

Use of polyester polyamine and polyester polyquaternary ammonium compounds as corrosion inhibitors

The present invention relates to the use of a product obtainable by the reaction of an alkoxylated fatty amine with a dicarboxyhc acid derivative, followed by partial or total quaternization of the reaction product obtained; or by reacting a product with a dicarboxylic acid derivative, followed by partial or total quaternization of the reaction product obtained. The product consists of &#x3e;60% w/w of oligomers/polymers with at least two alkoxylated amine units and one or more diacid/acid anhydride unit or &#x3e;50% w/w of oligomers/polymers with at least two alkoxylated amine units and two or more diacid/acid anhydride units; as a corrosion inhibitor for metal surfaces. The invention also relates to a method for protecting a metal surface from corrosion by contacting the metal surface with said corrosion inhibitor.

Environmentally friendly water/oil emulsions

The present invention relates to a new tertiary or quaternary nitrogen-containing ortho ester-based surfactant, where the hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts am attached by separate ortho ester linkages. The ortho ester surfactants are stable in alkaline solutions, but are readily hydrolysed in acidic solutions. Since the hydrophobic and the hydrophilic parts of the surfactants reside in different substituents of the ortho ester, the surface activity is lost upon dydrolysis. The invention also relates to a process for making the ortho ester-based surfactants, where low molecular weight ortho esters are used as starting materials. These low molecular weight ortho esters are reacted with a hydrophobic component, which is an alcohol or an alkoxylated alcohol, and hydrophilic component, which is an alkanolamine or an alkoxylated alkanolamine. The molar amounts of the reactants are preferably 1-2 moles of the hydrophilic component per mole orthoester and 1-2 moles of the hydrophobic component per mole ortho ester. By this process surface active amino ortho esters are obtained. To obtain quaternary ammnonium ortho esters, the amnino ortho esters are reacted with an alkylating reagent such as methyl chloride or dimethyl sulphate. The nitrogen-containing ortho esters are surface active and form micelles, they are efficient in lowering the surface tension and have excellent wetting properties. They are suitable to be used in all applications where quaternary ammonium surfactants and tertiary amine surfactants are typically used.

Nitrogen-containing ortho ester-based surfactant, its preparation and use

The present invention relates to a new ortho ester-based surfactant, where the hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts are connected by ortho ester linkages to the molecule. The ortho ester has the formulawhere R is hydrogen or an aliphatic group with 1&#x2013;7 carbon atoms; Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1&#x2013;5 carbon atoms; Ais an alkyleneoxy group with 2&#x2013;4 carbon atoms, the number of ethyleneoxy groups being at least 50% of the total number of alkyleneoxy groups; nis a number between 1 and 30; Ris an aliphatic group with 5&#x2013;22 carbon atoms; Ais an alkyleneoxy group with 3&#x2013;4 carbon atoms; nis a number between 0&#x2013;30, provided that when Ris an aliphatic group with 5&#x2013;6 carbon atoms nis at least 1; Ris selected from the group consisting of (A)R, (A)Rand an alkyl group with 1&#x2013;6 carbon atoms, where A, n, R, A, nand Rhave the same meaning as mentioned above; or a di- or polycondensate via any of the free hydroxy groups of the ortho ester. The ortho ester surfactants are stable in alkaline solutions, but are readily hydrolysed in acidic solutions to yield products that are not surface active. They are suitable to be used as emulsifiers or dispersants.

Ortho ester-based surfactant, its preparation and use

The present invention relates to new orthoester-based block polymers having a good antifoaming effect in liquid aqueous systems. The compounds are easily biologically degradable and, compared with traditional block polymers, have a comparatively high cloud point, which makes them readily compatible with other compounds and facilitates the formulation of homogeneous compositions. The new polymers are characterized in that they contain a block of at least 4 alkyleneoxy groups having 3 and/or 4 carbon atoms.
