Turbocharger boost control systems and methods for gear shifts

A twin turbo assembly is provided for an automotive vehicle that includes a first and second air intake for, a first and second turbo charger that includes, but is not limited to a first and second compressor connected to the first air intake, a first and second intake duct connecting the first turbo charger to a combustion engine. A first and second bypass valve is provided to connect the first and second air intake, respectively to the first and second intake duct bypassing the first and second compressor. Overpressure inside the intake ducts can be discharged to a volume between the air filter and the respective compressor. The released pressure prevents or at least reduces the risk that compressed air inside the intake ducts may flow against the first compressor and the second compressor, so that the noise emission associated with this backflow is reduced or even prevented.

A method is provided for operating a turbo charger of a combustion engine that includes, but is not limited to providing a set of values of a basic boost pressure for opening a waste gate for the turbo charger at a standard Temperature and at a standard pressure and measuring an ambient air temperature and an ambient air pressure. The method also includes, but is not limited to calculating a density of ambient air based on a mathematical formula using the measured ambient air temperature and the measured ambient air pressure and transforming at least one point of the provided set of values of the basic boost pressure at standard conditions into at least one point of an estimated set of values of the basic boost pressure at ambient conditions by a correction factor based on the calculated density, and controlling the turbo charger with least one corrected value of the basic boost pressure.

An engine control system comprises a predicted airflow module, a first actuator determination module, a first desired air module, and an actuator position module. The predicted airflow module determines a predicted engine airflow based on a desired torque. The first actuator determination module determines a first engine actuator value based on the predicted engine airflow. The first desired air module selectively determines a first desired engine air value based on the first engine actuator value and the desired torque. The actuator position module determines a desired engine actuator value based on the first desired engine air value.
