A riveting device for the assemblage of two or more sheet metal sections (A, B) of a structure comprising a working unit (14) operable on one side of the sections (A, B) to be assembled and a clamping and bucking unit (26) operable one the opposite side of the sections. Both units (14, 26) comprise clamping means (16 and 31, 62, 72) respectively, by which the sections (A, B) are clamped together during the entire working cycle in each rivet position, i.e. during hole making, seal compound application, rivet insertion and rivet upsetting. The clamping means of the bucking unit (26) comprises a head (62; 90), one or more low inertia contact elements (72; 94) and a resilient impact absorbing means (66; 101, 102) provided between the contact element or elements (72; 94) and the head (62; 90). The combination of a low inertia contact element and a resilient impact absorbing means provides a solution to the problem of reducing the extremely high contact forces generated at each blow from the riveting tool between the clamping means on the bucking side and the sheet metal sections (A, B). Deformation of the sections (A, B) due to such high forces is thereby avoided.

Riveting device

A device for assembling by riveting two or more sections of a sheet element structure wherein the sections (A, B) to be assembled are supported in a fixed stationary mode. A guide beam (16, 116) is clamped firmly against one side of the sections and supports a selectively movable working unit (17, 117) comprising drilling machines (45, 46) and rivet supplying and installing means (48,49) and a riveting hammer (50). A multiple or single point thrust and rivet bucking means (32, 132) is arranged on the opposite side of the sections (A, B) and comprises clamping force producing thrust elements (34; 134) as well as a rivet bucking die (41; 141). A computerized control system (43, 53) governs the operation cycles of the working unit (17;117) as well as the thrust and rivet bucking means (32; 132).

Device for assembling by riveting two or more sections of a structure

A power operated percussion tool in which a shoulder (28) in the tool housing (10, 17) defines a rear rest position for working implement (12) attached to the tool, and in which an energy absorbing bias unit (23, 31) is arranged to resiliently load the working implement (12) toward the rest position. The bias unit (23, 31) comprises a spring (23) and a shock wave mitigating ring assembly (31) and acts between a rearwardly facing shoulder (22) in the housing (10, 17) and a forwardly facing shoulder (30) on the working implement (12). The ring assembly (31) includes two spring steel rings (32, 33) formed with mating conical contact surfaces for transforming axial load variations into radial deformation of the rings (32, 33).

Percussion tool

A vibration damped portable impact tool comprising a pneumatically powered reciprocating mechanism to which a chisel is connected. In the disclosed tool the chisel is rigidly connected to the piston of the reciprocating mechanism so as to move conjointly therewith. The drive mechanism is arranged in a previously known manner to absorb its own acceleration forces whereby the only vibration forces acting on the tool derive from the chisel in its contact with the work piece. By adapting the spring constant relating to bending of the chisel to the entire mass of the tool such that the resonance frequency of that system is lower than the impact frequency, the vibration forces arising at the working end of the chisel are not transmitted to the tool housing.

Vibration damped portable impact tool

In a hand held power operated percussion tool, the housing (10) is vibration insulated from the impact mechanism to protect the operator from unhealthy vibration forces. In order to form a vibration damped gripping member at or in front of the forward end of the tool housing (10), a sleeve element (20) is supported on the housing (10) for axial adjustability thereon. The sleeve element (20) surrounds the working implement (18) and prevents the operator from using the latter as a grip means. The sleeve element (20) is arrestable in any desired axial position by a conical lock nut (22) threadingly engaging the sleeve element (20) and forming therewith a radially acting clamp.

Pneumatic riveting hammer

A vibrationless pneumatic impact tool comprises: a housing; a cylinder axially displaceable in the housing; a hammer piston reciprocably driven by pressure air in the cylinder; a recoil cushioning air volume disposed between the housing and the cylinder; a first valve arrangement located in a fixed disposition relative to the housing; and a second valve arrangement located in a fixed disposition relative to the cylinder and arranged to cooperate with the first valve. The first valve comprises at least one air inlet opening communicating with a pressure air source and at least one air venting port communicating with the atmosphere. The second valve is arranged to selectively prevent communication between the at least one inlet opening and the recoil cushioning air volume while establishing communication between the at least one venting port and the recoil cushioning air volume when the cylinder is in its extreme forward position relative to the housing, and to selectively establish communication between the at least one inlet opening and the recoil cushioning air volume while preventing communication between the at least one venting port and the air volume when the cylinder is in its extreme rear position relative to the housing. This arrangement improves handling of the impact tool.

Vibrationless impact tool

A power control device for a pneumatic motor includes a pressure air supply flow limiting means in the form of a flow restriction having a diverging, pressure recovering outlet. The device also comprises a load responsive pressure relief means which is located downstream of the flow restriction and which is arranged to gradually release pressure air from the motor into the atmosphere in response to decreasing load applied on the motor. The device is effective in reducing the motor power in response to decreasing load upon the motor. The disclosed motor is a hammer piston impact tool, and the motor load responsive pressure release means comprises the forward end of the motor cylinder and passages on a thrust sleeve which receives the shank of a chisel and which is slidingly received in the cylinder. A motor load balancing spring is arranged to bias the motor load responsive pressure relief valve toward its open position, such that, upon increasing motor load, the spring yields and permits the motor load responsive pressure relief valve to move toward its closed position.
