According to an aspect, there is provided a method for managing elevator cars in a multi-car elevator shaft system. The method comprises determining, by an elevator control entity, the optimum number of elevator cars for a given time of a day in the multi-car elevator shaft system; and commanding, by the elevator control entity, at least one elevator car into at least one elevator car storage or back to service from the at least one elevator car storage based on the determination, wherein elevator cars in the at least one elevator car storage act as standby elevator cars for the multi-car elevator shaft system.

Managing elevator cars in a multi-car elevator shaft system

An arrangement for reducing the displacement of an elevator car caused by a change in loading includes at least an elevator car configured to move up and down in an elevator hoistway and one or more counterweights, and also at least one rope element above the elevator car and at least one rope element below the elevator car and at least one pretensioner of the rope elements. The elevator car and counterweight are configured to be supported and moved via the rope elements and the pretensioner and rope pulleys, of which rope pulleys the first part are diverting pulleys, and the second part are traction sheaves. The arrangement additionally includes at least two hoisting machines. In the arrangement is a mechanism configured to lock at least two rope pulleys to be non-rotating at least during loading of the elevator car.

Arrangement for reducing displacement of an elevator car caused by a change in loading

Modern elevators involve a plurality of ropes and wheels for ropes in a variety of different functions related to the operation and security of an elevator. The wearing of a rope and a wheel may be inspected by scanning a profile of a wheel or ropes on a wheel. When a rope or a wheel is worn the profile will be lower than in the normal situation. Depending on the difference to the normal situation an appropriate action may be taken.

Rope and rope groove monitoring

An elevator including a hoistway, an elevator car vertically movable in the hoistway, a rope connected to the elevator car movably together with the elevator car, a guide for guiding the rope along a path and a device that determines a position of the elevator car. The device includes an elongated code mark pattern provided on the rope, one or more sensors mounted beside the rope for sensing code marks of the code mark pattern, and an analyzer connected with the a plurality of sensors. The one or more sensors sense code marks of the code mark pattern passing by them when the rope moves along its path, and the analyzer determines the current position of the elevator car based on code marks sensed by the one or more sensors during movement of the rope.

An elevator arrangement, includes an elevator hoistway, an elevator car, which is arranged to travel in the elevator hoistway, a counterweight, a movable supporting platform above the elevator car, suspension roping, which is connected to the elevator car and to the counterweight, and supports them while suspended from the supporting platform, and a hoisting machine, which includes a device configured to move the roping. The elevator arrangement also includes a hoisting machine and traction roping that are separate from the supporting platform, which hoisting machine is in power transmission connection via the traction roping with the elevator car and with the counterweight.

The invention relates to a method and arrangement for closing doors of an elevator that comprises at least an elevator shaft, a car running along guide rails, in the shaft and equipped with a car door, landing doors at each landing floor, a hoisting machinery, a necessary roping system and shaft equipment, and a control system for controlling the activities of the elevator. According to traffic situations controlled by the control system of the elevator the door open time of the car doors and landing doors is reduced by speeding up the closure of the doors, and at the same time the passengers are informed about the speed-up.

The invention relates to a method for handling and modernizing ropes in an elevator, which elevator comprises at least an elevator car arranged to run in an elevator shaft along the guide rails, a counterweight connected to the elevator car with hoisting ropes from above, a hoisting machinery with a traction sheave above the elevator car, and compensating ropes connected between the elevator car and the counterweight through a compensating mechanism at a lower part of the elevator shaft. The old hoisting ropes and compensating ropes are dismantled when the elevator car has been run to the upper part of the elevator shaft without a risk of losing the friction on the traction sheave.

An elevator includes an elevator car, a counterweight and suspension roping, which connects the elevator car and counterweight to each other, and which suspension roping includes one or more ropes, which include a load-bearing composite part, which includes reinforcing fibers in a polymer matrix. The elevator car and the counterweight are arranged to be moved by exerting a vertical force on at least the elevator car or on the counterweight. The elevator includes a device separate from the suspension roping for exerting the force on at least the elevator car or on the counterweight.

An elevator arrangement includes a plurality of elevators in a building, which plurality includes a plurality of zoned elevators moving in an elevator hoistway, which have different ranges of movement of the elevator car in the building to each other, and which zoned elevators each have a top limit and a bottom limit of the range of movement of the elevator car, to above the top limit and to below the bottom limit of which range of movement travel of the elevator car of the zoned elevator in question is prevented.
