The present invention provides a technique to reduce the quantity of paging attempts to mobile terminals. The technique involves periodically rejecting mobile terminating SMS (MT-SMS) messages destined to a mobile subscriber who has already had no paging response success for a previous MT-SMS message until the mobile terminal is reachable or upon the timeout of a Mobile Not Reachable Flag (MNRF) rejection period. The present invention targets mobile subscribers who were out of radio coverage and allows the mobile subscriber to terminate voice calls. Mobile terminal originated activity is not affected. The present invention may co-exist with the existing SMS Center mobile terminating SMS polling mechanism in the market today.

A mobile switching center of an apparatus in one example is configured to provide a closed user group (CUG) supplementary service to a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device is a member of a default CUG and is not provisioned for outgoing access. The mobile switching center is configured to provide a plurality of CUG interlock codes that correspond to a plurality of closed user groups (CUGs). The plurality of CUG interlock codes comprise at least one outgoing access (OA) CUG interlock code. The mobile switching center is configured to provide a default behavior according to the default CUG for an outgoing call from the mobile communication device. The mobile switching center is configured to provide outgoing access to the mobile communication device for the outgoing call if a setup message from the mobile communication device for the outgoing call comprises a request for the OA CUG interlock code.

One or more application server components serve to associate one or more digit strings with one or more numbers available to one party of one or more parties to a call and to impose one or more charges on the one or more numbers available to the one party to the call. Where the one party to the call employs an equipment that fails to support a P-Asserted-Identity header of the call, one application server component of the one or more application server components serves to: remove from the header of the call one digit string of the one or more digit strings available to the one party; insert into the P-Asserted-Identity header one number of the one or more numbers available to the one party associated with the one digit string; and to impose one charge of the one or more charges on the one number associated with the one digit string.

Apparatus and method for providing multiple line billing in telecommunications systems

A broadband address of a first subscriber is identified and communicated to a second subscriber in a first communication system using an SMS data enabled cellular system or call origination set up messaging. If authorization is given by the second subscriber, the broadband address of the second subscriber is delivered to the first subscriber by the first communication system, whereby the first and second subscribers have exchanged their respective broadband addresses over a first communications system where the broadband addresses are utilized for broadband communications over a second communication system.

A multiple-protocol home location register (MP HLR) comprises a processor, that generates network messages according to two or more network protocols and processes network requests and other messages to obtain information requested by two or more networks that support the two or more network protocols. One embodiment of the MP HLR () utilizes protocol gateways () that interpret network requests and generate, utilizing a common control procedures for multiple network protocols, queries to a database that provides a common source of data for supported networks. Another embodiment of an MP HLR () utilizes a mediation device () that generates and/or translates network messages according to multiple different network protocols and utilizes multiple HLRs () or home agents, each supporting a different network protocol.

Multiple-protocol home location register and method of use

A GPRS interworking and interoperability function (IIF) is interposed between a serving GSM/GPRS wireless system and a second wireless system of a different technology family to allow a mobile station homed to the second wireless system to operate in the GSM/GPRS system. The IIF executes or emulates the behavior of a GPRS HLR when communicating with the GSM/GPRS system, and executes or emulates the behavior of an MSC/VLR of the home system technology family when communicating with the home system. When a mobile station registers in the serving system, the MSC/VLR portion of the IIF transmits a registration notification message to the home system HLR specifying the address of an associated SGSN as though it were an MSC.

Interworking and interoperability of GPRS systems with systems of other technology families

A system and methods for allowing wireless users to make and send calls using a second wireless billing number or 'line' assigned to a single wireless telephone advantageously requires no changes to the air interface or messaging protocol between a Mobile Switching Center and the wireless telephone. The second line is provisioned in the HLR. When the wireless telephone registers with a VLR, the HLR inserts the second billing number. When making a call, the user flags that the second line or number is to be billed by adding a predefined set of digits or characters to the called telephone number. The system recognizes the digits and creates appropriate billing records for the second number. When a call is received on the second billing number or line, the system recognizes that the call is destined for the second billing number, and adds the predefined flag digits to the Calling Party Number to be displayed. The user can recognize from the flag digits that the call was received on the second billing number or line.

Transparent billing and display of multiple directory numbers in wireless telephone systems

In a wireless GSM communication network, caller data can be collected at a central location and centrally stored, regardless of the operating state of the phone being called. The GSM gateway mobile switching center can collect caller data and forward it to the GSM home location register database for subsequent processing. In an alternate embodiment, the terminating mobile switching center can collect the caller data.
