An optical isolator has optical fibers arranged on a single side. The optical isolator includes an input optical fiber, an output optical fiber, an input splitting/combining device, an output splitting/combining device, an input optical rotation device, an output optical rotation device, a lens, a Faraday rotator, and a reflector. The input optical fiber and the output optical fiber are on a same side of each of the lens, the Faraday rotator, and the reflector. The optical isolator with input and output optical fibers arranged on a single side only needs to use one lens. The input and output splitting/combining devices are fixed on an end surfaces of input/output optical fibers, respectively.

The present disclosure provides a MEMS -based variable optical attenuator (VOA) array, sequentially including an optical fiber array, a micro-lens array, and a MEMS-based micro-reflector array to form a VOA array having several optical attenuation units. The MEMS-based micro-reflectors can change the propagation direction of a beam, causing a misalignment coupling loss to the beam and thereby achieving optical attenuation, with a broad range of dynamic attenuation, low polarization dependent loss and wavelength dependent loss, good repeatability, short response time (at the millisecond level), etc. Arrayed device elements are used as assembly units of the present disclosure, and the assembly of arrayed elements facilitates tuning in batches. Accordingly, automation levels are improved, and the production costs are reduced.

MEMS-based variable optical attenuator array

A device includes an integrated structure of an input fiber, a first output fiber, an input splitting/combining device, a first output splitting/combining device, an input rotation device, a first output rotation device, a first lens, an isolator core, a second lens, a second output rotation device, a second output splitting/combining device, and a second output fiber. With the integrated structure, the device integrates functions of an optical isolator and an optical splitter. As an optical splitter, input of an optical signal into the input fiber are distributed to the two output fibers for output. As an optical splitter, the device can isolate light in opposite directions and can reduce damage to a light source at the input. In a system, the device can replace two conventional optical isolators and optical splitters and effectively reduce space, simplify the assembly process, and facilitate miniaturization and integration for systems.

A single-ended output circulator includes a three-core optical fiber head having first, second, and third optical fiber cores; a walk-off crystal having a first surface facing towards the second end of the three-core optical fiber head tube and a second surface facing away from the second end of the three-core optical fiber head tube; a plurality of half-wave plates each having a first surface coupled to the second surface of the walk-off crystal and a second surface facing away from the second surface of the walk-off crystal; a collimating lens having a first end and a second end; a reflection mirror configured to reflect light beams from the collimating lens; an optical prism between the collimating lens and the reflection mirror and configured to transmit a light beam along a propagation direction according to a polarization direction of the light beam; and a polarization rotator.
