Methods and apparatuses () for detecting body-related temperature changes are provided. The method comprises measuring a skin-surface temperature at a first temperature sensor element () at a measuring rate (S) and measuring an ambient temperature at a second temperature sensor element () at the measuring rate (S). The method also comprises calculating a plurality of first change rates for the skin-surface temperature and a plurality of second change rates for the ambient temperature over a time interval (S). The method further comprises determining, based on the plurality of first change rates and the plurality of second change rates, whether an ambient temperature change rate is faster than a skin-surface temperature change rate by a threshold (S). The method additionally comprises selecting whether or not to trigger an alarm based on a result of the determining (S). With the methods and apparatuses (), the number of false alarms may be significantly reduced.

Method and apparatus for detecting body-related temperature changes

An approach is provided for providing efficient power saving schemes for a device and any associated sensors thereon while allowing for various levels of functionalities. A device determines a distance from a location of a device on a route to a checkpoint location on the route based, at least in part, on mapping data associated with the route. Then the device causes an initiation of a sleep mode of operation for at least one location sensor associated with the device. Further, the device causes an initiation of an active mode of operation for the at least one location sensor based, at least one in part, on a determination that the device has substantially traveled the distance, a portion of the distance, or a combination thereof.
