A hardened slip and a method of making the hardened slip are disclosed. A method of hard surfacing a slip component for a downhole tool is disclosed. The slip component may have a bearing surface and may be composed of a base material, the base material being metallic. The method may comprise steps of positioning at least the bearing surface of the slip component with a direct contact with a boron source; bonding an external layer at least on the bearing surface to form a metallurgical bond between boron from the boron source with the base material by boriding the base material; and maintaining a bulk temperature of the slip component below a melting point of the base material.

The patent application discloses a plug useable for isolating sections of a wellbore. The in-situ dissolvable plug comprises a cylindrical body having a backup piece at least at one end of the cylindrical body, a tube and a cylindrical body. The tube may extend through the cylindrical body and backup piece. The cylindrical body may be made of dissolvable material comprising an external surface, and an inner bore surface formed around the tube. The cylindrical body is soft, moldable, and expandable vertical to the tube to form an in-situ plug at downhole.

Formulation and setup method of in-situ dissolvable plug

The packer system includes a packer mandrel, an upper support or gage ring, a seal member, an upper slip device, an upper cone, a lower cone, a lower slip device, a setting sleeve, and a setting piston. The seal member has a run-in position and a set position. The set position seals against a borehole at a location in a borehole. The setting sleeve has a bypass position to transfer load of the setting piston away from the lower slip device and to the lower cone, the seal member, and the upper cone to set the seal member and upper slip device before the lower slip device. The setting sleeve has a released position to separate from the setting piston so that the load of the setting piston can finally be applied on the lower slip device for expansion of the lower slip device at the proper time and location.

The frac plug device is a wedge type or ramp type frac plug that can seal at a setting position in a large diameter portion of the borehole. The thickness, taper angle, and dimensions of components for passing through the narrowest portion of the borehole during deployment no longer limit the radial expansion. The frac plug device includes a core cone, a segmented cone, a slip device, a segmented cap member, and a core cap member. A simplified setting action sets the high expansion of the slip device by the core cone and the segmented cone. The segmented cone and the segmented cap member increase expansion of the slip device, and the segmented cap member and the core cap member lock the slip device around the core cone in the final expansion configuration at the maximum radial expansion for large diameter portions of the borehole.

A ramp type frac plug device of the present invention is a simplified, short and compact frac plug device to both maintain seal to the borehole wall and prevent premature release from the borehole. The frac plug device includes a cone, an anchor assembly, a cap member, a slip device, and a sealing member. In a set configuration, the frac plug device has both the friction fit engagement of the cone and the slip device and a single direction rachet locked engagement of an anchor ring with a threaded ring portion and an anchor mandrel with an exterior threaded mandrel portion of the anchor assembly. The ratchet lock engagement between the anchor ring and the anchor mandrel prevents backward movement of the cone away from the anchor mandrel so that the cap member engaged with the anchor mandrel locks the slip device in position on the cone.

The hybrid battery system has multiple discharge voltage plateaus and a greater charge capacity of metal in the negative electrode, while still having sufficient energy density and sufficient power capability to supply external devices. The charge capacity of the negative side is higher than the charge capacity of the positive side. There are two solvent compositions in the cathodic solution, and there is a transition from a first discharge voltage plateau to a second discharge voltage plateau at a voltage less than the first discharge voltage plateau. The battery system is safe, and the transition between discharge voltage plateaus provides an estimation of battery capacity that can indicate when the battery system is running out of power.

The patent application discloses a degradable thermoset composite. The composite comprises a reaction product of an epoxy resin mixture, a cross-linker, a catalyst. The epoxy resin mixture may comprise at least one aromatic epoxy resins having a glass transition temperature greater than or equal to 150° C. The reaction product may have a glass transition temperature greater than or equal to 110° C. as measured by DSC or DMA.

Co-cured blends of fluoroelastomers of tetrafluoroethylene-propylene copolymer with cure site monomer and terpolymers of Vinylidene fluoride (VDF), Hexafluoropropylene (HFP) and Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) with peroxide as initiator and coagent TAIC as crosslinker show improved curing performance, improved mechanical properties and improved compression set as well. The co-cured fluoroelastomers show improved chemical resistance to the solvent aging systems and better retention of mechanical properties after aging at high temperature in the solvents system.

A coating protects a dissolvable component of a downhole tool, so that the dissolvable component can be deployed to a desired downhole location, perform under high stress for fracturing operations, and be efficiently dissolved after the fracturing operations are completed. The present invention elevates known greases for this functionality usually performed by complex factory fabricated polymer and metal coatings. The coating includes an activation layer, a first grease layer, and a second grease layer. The first grease layer and the second grease layer have differential grease layer consistency ranges and thickness rages. The coating includes non-uniform layers of manually applied greases onsite to control degradation of the component substrate as effectively as factory coatings pre-fabricated on the components.

The hybrid battery system includes a primary battery pack, a secondary battery pack, a battery control unit, a battery pack positive terminal, and a battery pack negative terminal. The battery control unit includes a management module and a variable resistor. The primary battery pack supplies power at lower temperatures, while the secondary battery pack supplies power at higher temperatures. The primary battery pack is unsafe at higher temperatures, and the primary cells within the primary battery pack are modified to mitigate the dangers that previously rendered the primary battery pack unusable in a hybrid battery pack at higher temperatures. The invention includes the method of safely operating the hybrid battery system with the modified primary battery cells of the primary battery pack.

The retrievable packer system includes a packer mandrel, a lock ring, an upper cone, a lower cone, a slip device, a retrieval mandrel, and a slotted retrieval sleeve. The lock ring is attached to the packer mandrel, followed by the upper cone, the slip device, the lower cone, and the retrieval mandrel. The upper connection sleeve and the lower connection sleeve cover the packer mandrel so as to form a chamber in fluid connection with slip flow channels of the slip device. The packer system is run into the borehole with the slotted retrieval sleeve in the first position relative to the lower cone and the slip device in the run-in position. The packer system is set and can be locked at a location in the borehole. The slotted retrieval sleeve can push the upper cone to return the slip device to the run-in position for retrieval of the packer system.

The patent application discloses a degradable polymers compounds. The polymer compounds comprises product of blends of polyglycolic acid and polylactic acid in a weight ratio of from about 99/1 to about 50/50 in mixture with a compatibilizer poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), wherein the compounded product has a tensile strength of at least about 12,000 psi.
