The invention relates to an arrangement and a method for collecting oil from water in open water and/or winter conditions, whereby a vessel's () hull () and an oil collecting equipment () are utilized as an oil collector. According to the invention, the oil collecting equipment () is attached to the vessel's () hull () and it is equipped with an auxiliary device (), which comprises at least two auxiliary means () which are interconnected so that they are movable with respect to each other. The auxiliary means () can be utilized in various ways in different conditions.

Arrangement and method for collecting oil

The invention relates to an arrangement and a method for collecting oil from water in open water and/or winter conditions, whereby a vessel's hull and oil collecting equipment are utilized as an oil collector. According to the invention, the oil collecting equipment is attached to the vessel's hull and it is equipped with an auxiliary device, which comprises at least two auxiliary means which are interconnected so that they are movable with respect to each other. The auxiliary means can be utilized in various ways in different conditions.

A service vessel that is designed for navigating both in the open sea and in ice conditions is provided with a demountable propeller nozzle. For an ice-free navigation period the propeller nozzle is mounted around the propulsion propeller of the vessel, whereas for a navigation period in ice conditions the propeller nozzle is removed. The power absorption of the propulsion propeller is maintained constant during nozzle and nozzle-free operation.

Service vessel operating method

A sound source arrangement for use in carrying out a seismic survey comprises flexible structural modules connected together end-to-end to form an elongated flexible structure of substantially uniform exterior cross-sectional shape and size. The elongated flexible structure can be stored on a reeling unit and may be unwound from the reeling unit at a survey location and wound back onto the reeling unit without disconnecting the modules from one another. At least one of the flexible modules is an air gun module which includes a device for producing sound impulses.

Sound source arrangement

Underwater sound from a marine vessel driven by one or more propellers is damped by introducing air and/or other gas into the vessel's propeller flow(s) so that the turbulence of the propeller flow(s) causes mixing of the air/gas and water and disintegration of gas bubbles. The majority of the gas bubbles formed in the water are from 1 to 20 mm in diameter.

Sound damping arrangement

A main propulsion arrangement for a high power ship or the like comprises an underwater drive unit connected to and turnable by a substantially vertical tubular shaft journalled in the ship. The drive unit and the tubular shaft define a hollow casing enclosing an electrical propulsion motor connected to a propeller shaft, which is connected to a driving propeller external of the casing. The casing is, at its inside, supported by several mainly vertical web plates, which are arranged to act, in combination, as elements structurally stiffening and supporting the casing, as elements securing the propulsion motor in place relative to the casing, as elements transmitting to the casing reaction forces to the torque developed by the propulsion motor, and as wall elements of ducts for incoming and outgoing gaseous coolant for the propulsion motor.

Ship propulsion arrangement

An icebreaking ship has a hull including a forward part and an aft part and a screw arrangement in the aft part of the ship. The screw arrangement is designed for propulsion of the ship in the forward direction and is turnable substantially in a horizontal plane, whereby the screw arrangement serves for steering the ship. The screw arrangement and the form of the hull of the ship are dimensioned and designed for allowing the ship to move in the aft direction in heavy ice conditions.

Icebreaking ship

The invention relates to a ship that is adapted for operating in ice-filled waters and has a general frame form defining a substantially horizontal bottom surface, two side surfaces, a stern and a blow portion that breaks the ice advantageously. The bottom surface comprises one or a greater number of cavities, extending to or located on both sides of the longitudinal symmetry plane of the ship, in which cavity or cavities there are arranged movable sheetlike elements. The sheetlike elements have a first position, in which said elements form a generally continuous part of the bottom surface, and a second position, in which said elements form, below the bottom surface, a substantially vertical wedge-shaped structure that converges in the direction from the stern of the hull towards the bow of the hull. The elements are provided with power units which bring about movement of the elements from one position to another by turning around a swivelling axis arranged in the longitudinal direction of the elements.
