A method () for carrying out a security procedure with a mobile station, where a hybrid cellular telecommunication system communicates with a mobile station () and the hybrid cellular telecommunication system communicates with a cellular network (). The method is characterized in that the cellular network carries out the security procedure with the mobile station, the data related to the security procedure is transferred between the cellular network and the mobile station via the hybrid cellular telecommunication system, and the decision of triggering the security procedure of the cellular network is made outside the cellular network (). The invention also relates to a network element () in the hybrid cellular telecommunication system that triggers the security procedure and to a network element () in the cellular network that carries out the security procedure after receiving a triggering signal.

Method and device for carrying out security procedures involving mobile stations in hybrid cellular telecommunication systems

A frequency setting unit for a radio telecommunications network comprising a first, reference base station transmitting signals at a first frequency, and a second base station transmitting at a second frequency; the frequency control unit comprising: a radio receiver for receiving signals from the first base station; analysis apparatus for analysing the received signals to determine the first frequency; and feedback apparatus responsive to the decoding apparatus and coupled to the second base station for adjusting the second frequency with the aim of establishing a desired relationship between the second frequency and the first frequency.

A communications system includes a subnetwork connected to a network. The network has a first part and a second part, with the first and second parts being connected so that a first user can communicate with a second user. The first user is able to move within the respective part of the system. The subsystem includes a gateway for permitting communications between first and second parts. The gateway includes a register for storing information associating the first and second users, and for storing information relating to the current location of the first user so that information from the second user can be directed to the first user.

A method of transmitting voice over IP (VoIP) in a wireless telecommunications system comprising at least one wireless mobile station, a first radio access gateway and a second radio access gateway. Address information of the second radio access gateway is defined in the first radio access gateway, if a need is detected to hand over the connection of the mobile station from a base station connected to the first radio access gateway to a base station connected to the second radio access gateway. Address information of the first radio access gateway is defined in the second radio access gateway. Data addressed to and transmitted from the mobile station is transferred through the first radio access gateway and the second radio access gateway when the handover has been performed to the base station connected to the second radio access gateway.

A method of handing off a mobile station (MS B) from an internal cellular communications network to an external cellular communications network having a network controller, the method comprising: allocating at least one cell of the internal cellular network as a border cell (E); detecting the movement of said mobile station (MS B) into said border cell (E); generating an advance hand-off request in accordance with a prediction algorithm which uses a set of predetermined parameters associated with said mobile station (MS B) and determines when a hand-off is likely to be required; and responsive to said advance hand-off request setting up a communication channel in the external cellular communications network for use by said mobile station (MS B) when an actual hand-off request is made, wherein said external network and said internal network is a packet switched network.

Handover of a mobile station from an internal cellular communication system to an external cellular communication system

The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of optical couplers, comprising the steps of (a) removing the jacket material over a short distance from two or more optical fibres, (b) bringing the jacketless portions of the optical fibers in contact with each other, (c) fusing the optical fibers together within the contact area and drawing them into tapers. In order that the process would be simpler and easier to control, the method according to the invention is characterized in that the optical fibers are fused by heating them by means of an arc substantially parallel to the optical fibers. The arc is excited in a chamber confined in the direction of the radius of the fibers, and it is excited and extinguished at a low frequency so that the arc strikes at arbitrarily varying points around the fibers. The invention also concerns an oven for fusing fibers, comprising a fusion chamber extending through a ceramic body and provided at both ends thereof with an electric electrode for producing within the chamber an arc parallel to optical fibers arranged to be led through the chamber to be fused together.
