A fluidized bed reactor, comprising a furnace, a heat exchange chamber, a substantially vertical discharge channel connected to the lower part of the heat exchange chamber for removing particulate material from the heat exchange chamber to the furnace, and a substantially vertical auxiliary channel for transferring particulate material from the heat exchange chamber to the furnace and from the furnace to the heat exchange chamber, the lower part of said auxiliary channel being provided with nozzles for fluidizing gas and with a flow conduit for connecting said auxiliary channel to the furnace and a flow conduit in the upper part for connecting said auxiliary channel to said heat exchange chamber. The furnace, heat exchange chamber, discharge channel and auxiliary channel preferably form an integrated structure having the discharge channel and the auxiliary channel adjacently arranged between the furnace and the heat exchange chamber.

Method of and an apparatus for recovering heat in a fluidized bed reactor

An apparatus for pneumatically conveying particulate material containing reaction products of a high pressure reactor from a supply vessel at a pressure of at least two bar to a receiving vessel at a considerably lower pressure. The apparatus includes a conveyor line attached to the supply vessel, a collecting vessel between the conveyor line and the receiving vessel, the collecting vessel including (i) a discharge conduit for the carrier gas, (ii) a device for controlling the discharge velocity of the carrier gas from the collecting vessel, and (iii) a device for controlling the pressure of the material collected in the collecting vessel, and a device for conveying the material directly from the collecting vessel to the receiving vessel essentially at the same pressure as is prevailing in the receiving vessel.

Method and apparatus for treating high pressure particulate material

A grate construction for a fluidized bed boiler, the boiler including a furnace defined by substantially vertical walls in which a fluidized bed of solid particles is maintained, a windbox under the furnace in the lower part of the boiler, a grate construction being positioned between the furnace and the windbox and forming an upper surface of the windbox, for suspending the fluidized bed in the furnace and an outlet duct for withdrawing from the boiler solid material removed from the grate. The grate construction includes a device for distributing fluidizing air or other equivalent gas from the windbox into the furnace and a device for removing coarse solids from the grate construction. The device for removing coarse solids includes a plurality of essentially vertical pockets projecting from the grate construction into the windbox and opening into the furnace, the horizontal cross section of the pockets at the grate level being formed as a longitudinal slit and the vertical cross section parallel to the longitudinal direction of the slits being downwards tapering inwardly.

Either atmospheric pressure or superatmospheric pressure high temperature gases, as from a gasifier or other circulating fluidized bed reactor, are filtered using monolithic ceramic filter elements mounted in an advantageous manner within a vessel. At least one generally upright hollow chamber element is mounted by a tube plate within the vessel, and has at least one gas impervious side wall having a column of openings in it, an open end, and a closed end. Monolithic ceramic filter elements are mounted in the openings. A number of chamber elements are typically provided, e.g. mounted in a circular pattern, and/or mounted to extend downwardly from a top tube plate and upwardly from a bottom tube plate. Backflushing of the filter elements dislodges separated particles, which fall down to the bottom of the vessel and are removed through a central discharge opening.

Ceramic filtering of gases

Gas with entrained particles, such as high temperature and pressure gas from a pressurized circulating fluidized bed reactor, is filtered using a vessel having a gas inlet, cleaned gas outlet, and filtered particles outlet. A pulse of cleaning gas is periodically or intermittently directed to the filters to dislodge particles which have been filtered and collected on the filters. Shrouds, having tubular, parallelepiped, zig-zag, or honeycomb configurations, are provided surrounding relevant portions of the filters to prevent dislodged particles from being entrained in gas passing to other filters, and instead directing the dislodged particles toward the vessel particles outlet. The shroud walls may have openings in them which allow gas to be filtered to pass through them, but prevent dislodged particles from passing through the openings. The filters may be mounted in hollow tubular or parallelepiped ducts in such a way that the ducts have smooth outer walls, and the shrouds may be substantially concentric with the ducts. When individual cleaning gas pulsing devices are associated with filters, the shrouds may include separate impingement and material collecting portions.
