An apparatus and a apparatus method for controlling transmissions of base stations are proposed. In the method, the apparatus belongs to a set of apparatuses controlled by a common controller, transmits at least one control signal unique to the apparatus within a given area and transmits also a second control signal common to a set of apparatuses controlled by the same controller.

Controlling transmissions

The invention relates to methods pertaining to cell reselection in a cellular telecommunication system. According to the invention, a connection setup rejection message is used to direct a mobile communication means to attempt a new connection with certain parameter values such as a certain carrier frequency. A plurality of parameter values may as well be indicated in the message, which allows the network to direct the mobile communication means to make a connection setup request to a specific cell, for example. The connection setup rejection message can be for example the CONNECTION SETUP REJECT message of the RRC protocol.

Cell reselection signalling method

The present invention relates to a method and network device for allocating a radio resource, e.g. a radio bearer, to a data connection. First, a radio resource is allocated-to the data connection and data transmitted via the data connection is compressed and transmitted using the allocated radio resource. During the transmission, a transmission parameter of the compressed data is monitored and the allocated radio resource is reconfigured based on the monitoring result. Thereby, the radio resource can be dynamically adapted to different data rates during the connection. Header compression benefits are available to all kinds of traffic without the disadvantage of having too low or too high data rates.

Dynamic allocation of a radio resource

A method of delivering services in a wireless communications system comprising a radio access network and a core network, the method comprising the steps of: establishing a radio access bearer for delivering one of a set of services to an end user via a signalling channel, each service having certain delivery requirements; determining in the radio access network that the delivery requirement for one of said services cannot be met; advising the core network that the delivery requirement for the said one service cannot be met; and providing a radio access bearer to allow at least one other service in the set to be delivered to that end user.

Delivering services in a wireless communications system

The invention is a method of setup involving at least one user equipment and a system. A method of setup involving user equipment in accordance with the invention includes transmitting a request for communications from at least one user equipment (), having a current band of operation in a wireless network (), to a controller () of the wireless network, the request containing information indicating any capability of the at least one user equipment to operate in any other band other than the current band of operation in the wireless network; and the controller, in response to the capability of the at least one user equipment to operate in any other band than the current band of operation and load conditions in the network, transmits to the at least one user equipment that the communications are to be established in another band in the wireless network than the current band of operation in the wireless network.

Indication of user equipment capabilities before radio resource control connection

A method of communications in a cellular telecommunications network is disclosed. A cell update message is sent from a user equipment to a network node. The cell update message comprises a cell update cause. The cell update cause includes one of information indicating user data transmission or information indicating control data transmission, if the cause of the cell update is a uplink data transmission. A first procedure is used for data transmission if said information is user data transmission. A different second procedure is used for data transmission if said information is control data transmission.

Method of communication

A radio access network (RNC) assigns for a real-time media session a real-time access bearer that can be shifted between a dedicated channel state and a common channel state. The assignment is made in response to receiving an access bearer assignment message indicating that the real-time media session requires a real-time access bearer of that type. The media activity of the real-time access bearer is then monitored, and the access bearer shifts to the common channel state upon detecting media inactivity during the dedicated channel state, and shifts to the dedicated channel state upon detecting media activity during the common channel state.

Method and system for controlling access bearer in a real-time data service

A method of allocating data transmission resources in a packet-switched telecommunications system which comprises a terminal and a fixed network to which an operational entity is defined for defining resources for a radio bearer. Radio bearer resources are defined for the terminal on the basis of an application used on the radio bearer, and the used compression method of header fields in data packets is selected before the radio bearer resources are defined, the resources being defined in such a manner that they also comprise the capacity required by the selected compression method of header fields in data packets. The compression methods of header fields in data packets, which are supported by the terminal, are transmitted to the operational entity in the fixed network for defining the compression method to be used. Capacity is defined for the radio bearer in two directions, if the selected compression method of header fields in data packets requires a bi-directional connection.

Allocating data transmission resources in packet-switched data transmission

A method for improving the performance of random access when establishing a communication link between a user equipment (UE) and a radio network (UTRAN) the method includes transmitting a random access message (RAM) from the user equipment (UE) to the radio network (UTRAN), wherein the radio random access message (RAM) contains information describing a functional capability (UB_CAPABILITY) of the user equipment (UE). Thereby, the network knows the capabilities of the terminal as early as possible and can thus optimize all functions performed by the network to be in conformity with the terminal capabilities.

Method for establishing a communication link between a user equipment and a radio network

The present invention proposes a method for controlling transmission resources of a radio access network adapted to transmit data packets in real time traffic and in non-real traffic, the method comprising the steps of obtaining information related to transmission resources required for handling real time traffic; and reserving transmission resources for handling non-real time traffic based on a knowledge of the overall available transmission resources of a radio transceiver device of said radio access network and the information related to the transmission resources required for handling real time traffic by said radio transceiver. Transmission resources are subsequently activated based on channel elements which are identified by pre-selected channel element identifiers. This alleviates the use of hitherto required time consuming channel activation procedures as well as the need to refer to any bearer information.

Method for managing physical resources of a radio access network

A method of changing connection parameters in a cellular radio system comprising terminals, base stations, and radio network controllers, and where at least one terminal is in a macrodiversity connection wherein at least one diversity branch goes between the serving radio network controller and the terminal through the drift radio network controller and the drift base station, and which further comprises a load control wherein the radio network controller monitors and balances the use of radio resources in the base stations that operate under it, and a call control wherein the serving radio network controller sets and changes the connection parameters of its connections, and being characterized in that it comprises observing that the load control of the drift radio network controller demands a change in the connection parameters of the terminal communicating through the base station that operates under it, and controlling the serving radio network controller to change the connection parameters of said terminal.

Method and a system for controlling a macrodiversity connection through at least two radio network controllers

The invention is directed to a method for management of bearers in cellular telecommunication systems in such a situation, when the demand of services is greater than the capacity of the network to provide such services. According to the invention, a set of priority values is associated with each bearer. Preferably, the set of priority values comprises an absolute priority value, which is the same for all bearers associated with a certain USIM, and a relative priority value, which defines the priority order of the bearers associated with a certain USIM. The network uses these priority values to determine, which bearer is dropped, when not enough resources are available.
