The invention concerns a method for joining a metal component and a polymer component, and a structure comprising said components. In the method, an extrusion die plate with a through hole is placed between the metal component and the polymer component. A probe is rotated and plunged across the thickness of the metal component and eventually through said through hole of the extrusion die plate, thereby extruding a part of the metal component through said through hole of the extrusion die plate into the polymer component. The probe has a rotation axis having an offset to the centre of the through hole during the rotating and plunging action.

Method for joining a metal component and a polymer component, and structure comprising said components

The invention relates to a rotatable, plungeable and free path travelable non-consumable tool () for production of a channel () and a weld joint (). The tool () comprises a shoulder and a probe, the shoulder having a surface facing the material(s) of components () to be processed. The shoulder and the probe are arranged to have a simultaneous and synchronized action in the materials of at least two components () to be processed. The shoulder facing the at least two components () to be processed has a system of scrolls shaped to have an inward action and an outward action on the at least two components () to be processed. The probe has a cylindrical or conical surface having a top zone, provided with a profile having a push-up action on the components () to be processed in a direction towards the shoulder. The top zone ends at or in the vicinity of a bottom zone provided with a profile having a push-down action on the components () to be processed in a direction towards the tip. The tool () enables the production of a channel () and a weld (), between said at least two components (), in one single action.

The present invention relates to a method and tools for manufacturing of seamless tubular shapes, especially tubes and canisters. In the method of the invention the tubular shape is extracted from the flash continuously produced during the plunging of a consumable rod against a rigid anvil. The tools of the invention include a consumable rod; a non-consumable or consumable rigid anvil; first means for rotating the consumable rod and the non-consumable or consumable rigid anvil relatively with respect of each other; second means for plunging the consumable rod and the non-consumable or consumable rigid anvil relatively against each other; open die condition configuration for continuous production of flash during said plunging.
