A frequency equalization system is provided that substantially equalizes the room frequency responses generated by at least one loudspeaker within a listening area so that the frequency responses in the listening area are substantially constant and flat within a desired frequency range with minimum signal latency. The frequency equalization system may use multiple microphones to measure the audio signals of one or more subwoofers to achieve an improved bass response that is flat across the relevant frequency range. The system employs an algorithm that is a closed-form, non-iterative, mathematical solution and features short computation time with reduced delays.

Reduced latency low frequency equalization system

A Wide-band Equalization System ('WBES') based on near- and far-field measurement data. The WBES includes a subwoofer equalizer having an FIR filter together with decimator and interpolator filters for processing low frequency signals. The WBES may also include satellite channels for processing mid- and high-frequency signals, where each satellite channel includes cascaded IIR filters that process mid-frequency and high-frequency signals, respectively. The WBES may also include a DSP that performs the functions required by the IIR and FIR filters.

Wide-band equalization system

A loudspeaker system has a primary driver and an active radiator sealed in an enclosure where the active radiator is adapted to vary its operating characteristics to tune the sound pressure level and resultant frequency response generated by a primary driver. The primary driver and the active radiator share the same acoustic volume of the enclosure, i.e., the primary driver and the active radiator share a common acoustic compliance of the internal enclosure volume. The primary driver has electromagnetic components designed to oscillate a flexible cone or diaphragm along the longitudinal axis of the primary driver. The active radiator has electromagnetic components adapted to couple to a number of electrical configuration settings. Each electrical configuration setting may affect the operating characteristics of the diaphragm of the active radiator and is reflected back electro-acoustically, through the shared volume, to the primary driver. This electro-acoustical coupling, in turn provides the tuning mechanism for the primary driver.

Variable alignment loudspeaker system

This invention provides a method for designing a waveguide profile based upon predicted performance measurements of the waveguide. The method involves establishing a design metric, such as the change in acoustic reactance along the transition of the waveguide. Initial values may then assigned for the radius or diameter of the throat of the waveguide as well as values for the initial slope of the waveguide along the major and minor (or x and y) axis and the depth of the waveguide. The waveguide may then be divided into two or more sections. The values of the slopes for each section are then altered based upon the design metric. When using the change of acoustic reactance as the design metric, the slope of each section of the waveguide is adjusted to minimize the change in acoustic reactance between the sections, which is the desired performance standard. Once the slopes of each section are adjusted to achieve minimal change in acoustic reactance, the sections are concatenated together and the curve is smoothed using a polynomial function order curve fit to create a waveguide profile. This profile correlates with the design measurements, which allows for the prediction of the performance standards and/or dispersion characteristics of the waveguide. This allows for design iterations to be made to the waveguide to adjust for performance measurements without building a prototype.

Waveguide modeling and design system

This invention is directed a combination of a speaker base and a mounting bracket that secures a speaker enclosure to either a horizontal surface or a vertical surface. The mounting bracket may be adapted to couple to a wall and releasably to the speaker base. The speaker base may be adapted to pivotally couple to the speaker enclosure so depending on whether the speaker base is mounted onto wall or table, the speaker enclosure may be pivoted into a desired position.

Versatile speaker base

This invention provides a speaker enclosure that minimizes or defuses standing waves and minimizes resonance within the operating frequency range of its transducers. To minimize standing waves, the speaker enclosure has no two surfaces that are parallel to each other thus preventing the propagation of standing waves. The interior surface of the speaker enclosure may have ribs spaced apart on any surface that is prone to resonate so that the surface is strengthened such that it resonates at a predetermined frequency that is typically outside of the operating frequency range of the transducers.

This invention provides a speaker enclosure that is configured to minimize diffractions from occurring. The speaker enclosure includes baffle that is tapered inward both in a vertical axis and a horizontal axis to provide a smooth transition for the wave fronts to propagate from the outer edge of the speaker housing to the atmosphere. Providing a smooth transition for the wave fronts minimizes the occurrence of eddy currents so that diffractions do not interfere with the quality of sound from the driver. To stabilize or control the wave fronts in the vertical axis, the baffle may be elongated in the vertical axis to sustain the wave front in that axis.
